    Abstract: A mobile terminal capable of operating in a plurality of position tracking modes. The mobile terminal comprises: 1) a Global Positioning System (GPS) unit capable of receiving GPS signals from a plurality of GPS satellites, wherein the GPS unit is further capable of operating in i) a device autonomous fix (DAF) mode, ii) a server-computed assisted fix (SCAF) mode, and iii) a device-computed assisted fix (DCAF) mode. The mobile terminal also comprises: 2) a network transceiver capable of communicating with at least one terrestrial wireless network; and 3) a controller capable of controlling the operating mode of the GPS unit. The controller is capable of transitioning the GPS unit between the DAF mode, the SCAF mode, and the DCAF mode.

    Abstract: A security system for a shipping container includes a cover and seal pin, and a special removal tool for removing the pin from the cover. The cover includes a vertical channel with top and bottom plates mounted therein to form a rearwardly opening box. A pair of vertically aligned apertures in the top and bottom plates are aligned with apertures in ears of a hasp on the shipping container, and receive the seal pin to secure the cover to the container. A seal pin includes an elongated shaft with annular grooves in the upper and lower ends. A pair of end caps each includes an annular groove on their interior surfaces that correspond with the shaft grooves to retain a locking ring within the pair of aligned grooves, when the caps are snapped on the ends of the shaft. The locking rings prevent removal of the caps, once snapped into place on the shaft. A removal tool includes a hydraulic pump with a punch secured to a piston of the pump.

    Abstract: A kingpin lock includes a vertically-oriented tube with a conical shell formed by a plurality of gussets projecting radially from the tube. The gussets are triangular in shape, so that the conical shape tapers from the upper end to the lower end of the tube. A plunger type lock is mounted on the tube and is operable to move a securement pin into a notch on the kingpin to secure the kingpin within the tube, and to withdraw the pin from the notch to permit removal of the kingpin from the tube.
