Abstract: A radiation imaging system comprises a movable radiation source adapted to be disposed in a plurality of respective radiation source positions; a radiation detector and a collimator assembly configured to displace a collimator in a plurality of respective collimator positions, each of the collimator positions being coordinated with at least one of the radiation source positions such that a radiation beam emanating from the radiation source is collimated to limit radiation incident on the detector to a predetermined exposure area. Another radiation imaging system comprises a movable radiation source; a radiation detector; and a collimator comprising an adjustable geometry aperture assembly configured such that an adjustment of the aperture geometry is synchronized with the movement of the radiation source and coordinated with the radiation source position so as to limit the incident radiation to a predetermined exposure area at the detector.

  • Publication number: 20030134040
Abstract: Described herein is a method for providing a clean edge at the interface of a portion of a substrate coated with a coating system and an adjacent portion of the substrate which is uncoated. The method includes the step of forming a zone of non-adherence on the substrate portion which is to be uncoated, prior to application of the coating system. The zone of non-adherence is adjacent the interface, so that the coating system will not adhere to the zone of non-adherence, but will adhere to the portion of the substrate which is to be coated with the coating system.

  • Publication number: 20030120415
Abstract: A method for controlling distortion of a turbine case (“case”) includes measuring a temperature distribution for the case that includes thermal gradients. The method further includes modeling thermal stresses on the case induced by the thermal gradients, calculating an out of roundness index (“index”) resulting from the thermal stresses, and comparing the index with at least one distortion limit to determine whether the case has a satisfactory or an unsatisfactory index. The temperature distribution is controlled for an unsatisfactory index to produce the satisfactory index. A system for controlling distortion of the turbine case includes a thermal measurement system, for measuring the temperature distribution, and a computer configured for modeling the thermal stresses, calculating and comparing the index with the distortion limit, and controlling the temperature distribution for an unsatisfactory index to produce the satisfactory index.

  • Publication number: 20030100825
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an image from an extended volume of interest using a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system are provided. The apparatus comprises a magnet assembly, a gradient coil assembly, at least one radiofrequency coil, a positioning device for translating the volume using along an axis of the MRI system and a plurality of receivers. A plurality of MR signals are detected from the radiofrequency (RF) coil, as the positioning device is translated, and are sent to the plurality of receivers. Each of the receivers are configured to be adjusted either phase or frequency in response to the positioning device being translated. A plurality of respective sub-images are computed corresponding to the plurality MR signals for each of the receivers and for the given field-of-view (FOV) at each of the incremented positions. A composite image of the volume of interest is formed by combining the respective sub-images.
