    Abstract: An improved inorganic fiber based roofing shingle for use in both high and low temperature environments is prepared by pre-coating an inorganic fibrous substrate with a polymer/bitumen composition prior to the application of a conventional asphalt or bitumen top coat, wherein the polymer content of the bitumen/polymer pre-coat composition ranges from about 3 to 99% by weight.
