Patents Assigned to George Fischer Limited
  • Patent number: 4817919
Abstract: A casting device in particular a converter for pouring and/or treating of molten metal is provided with a tilting mechanism. A tilting arm with two turn- or tilting axles at least is provided for. A guiding segment allied to the tilting arm show--according to the relation to the tilting axle--different arc radii. The segment is motor-driven and spanned by one chain at least.

  • Patent number: 4515177
Abstract: A molded connecting piece has two saddle-shaped pieces one of which carries a hole drilling or punching tool and the other of which is connected to a branch line. The two connecting pieces are interconnected by an annular channel so that, when they surround are attached to a pipeline and a hole is made in the line, the medium reaches the branch line from the pipeline through the hole, through the annular channel and to the branch line. Between the saddle pieces and the pipeline are heating mats by which a tight welding connection can be produced.

  • Patent number: 4496393
Abstract: A plunging capsule for introducing a highly volatile, vaporizable additive, such as pure magnesium, into a metal melt in a treatment vessel comprises a wall oriented vertically in an operating position of the capsule. The wall has an upper portion forming two-thirds of the wall and a lower portion forming one-third of the wall, and defines a chamber for the additive. At least one outlet opening is provided in the upper portion. At least one inlet opening is provided in the lower portion. The transverse cross-sectional area of the inlet opening is less than that of the outlet opening.

  • Patent number: 4382828
Abstract: White, chromium cast iron having shock and impact resistance which comprise iron together with:______________________________________ Carbon: 2.2 to 3.6% by weight Chromium: 12.0 to 30.0% by weight Molybdenum: 0.0 to 3.0% by weight Nickel: 0.0 to 3.0% by weight Manganese: 0.0 to 2.0% by weight Copper: 0.0 to 3.0% by weight Vanadium: 0.0 to 1.5% by weight ______________________________________are disclosed. The casting are produced by casting the molten alloy in a metallic permanent mold, removing the solidified casting from the mold at a temperature above the A.sub.c3 temperature and cooling the casting sufficiently quickly to prevent the formation of pearlite as well as secondary carbide precipitation.

  • Patent number: 4339116
Abstract: A clamping apparatus includes jaws carried by a frame and movable toward each other to center and engage a workpiece by a lever and linkage arrangement which operates quickly. The workpiece is then firmly clamped by a rope which extends from the frame around the workpiece at least 360.degree. and through a gripping device. The gripping device is urged toward the gripping position by a spring.

  • Patent number: 4221514
Abstract: An automatic method of trimming portions of a workpiece such as a casting includes moving a trimming tool along the contour of the workpiece while imparting linear or rotary cutting motion to the tool, detecting the deflection of the tool as it follows the contour, and using signals representative of the deflection detection to control the contour-following tool motion. Apparatus for performing this method includes proximity detectors in the tool support or elastic deformation sensors such as strain gauges, in various embodiments. The tool itself acts as a pattern follower as well as the trimmer, using the workpiece as the pattern.

  • Patent number: 4149708
Abstract: A clamping arrangement to firmly clamp workpieces of variable shape to permit the workpieces to be processed on all peripheral sides includes a rotating platform and a clamping lever. The platform and the lever are separately mounted on the housing of the clamping arrangement. The lever is mounted on the housing by means of a column and a bearing part. The column is fixedly secured to the housing. The bearing part is rotatably and adjustably connected to the column to permit the bearing part to be located at various positions along the length of the column. The clamping lever is pivotably coupled to the bearing part and may be driven by fluid pressure operated cylinders between clamping and releasing positions. The clamping lever has two telescoping parts to permit the portion of the clamping lever which engages the workpiece to be radially adjustable with respect to the column.
