  • Patent number: 4944117
Abstract: A closure is provided that is directed, in the preferred embodiment, to an adjustable gate suitable for confining or preventing small children or pets from entering a secure area. The preferred embodiment of the gate is comprised of two connected panels that are relatively slidable to accommodate doorways of varying width. A thumb screw arrangement is used to fix the relative positions of the panels when roughly adjusting the gate to a particular doorway. Once the gate is roughly adjusted to the doorway a foot-pedal mechanism residing in one of the panels is employed to cause a pair of contact pads to engage the door jamb. As the foot pedal is depressed the contact pad blocks associated with one side of the gate and the bumpers associated with the opposite of the gate engage opposite sides of the door jamb. Further, depression of the foot pedal causes an increasing normal force to be applied to the door jamb that frictionally fixes or wedges the gate in the door jamb.

  • Patent number: 4836573
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a child in a reclining position and in a sitting position is provided. A first planar member is suspended from a rim portion and is movable with respect to the rim portion from a first position spaced from the rim to a second position in which an edge of the first planar member is substantially adjacent to an edge of the rim. A second planar member extends from an edge of the rim to the first planar member. In a first configuration, the first planar member acts as a whole body support for a child to provide a bassinet or baby carriage configuration. In the second configuration, the first planar member is provided as a back rest and the second planar member is provided as a seat. The child support is pivotable from a first, generally horizontal position for use as a bassinet to a second, inclined or tilted position for use as a stroller.

  • Patent number: 4807928
Abstract: A tray apparatus is provided for attachment to a high chair. The tray apparatus includes a tray having a circular outer periphery. Raised arm or elbow rest areas are formed at the back of the tray. Peripheral portions, which are located at the back of the tray, decrease in height in a direction from the outer periphery. The tray apparatus also includes a latching mechanism that provides a number of functions including: adjustment of the tray relative to the high chair while maintaining engagement between the tray apparatus and the high chair; one-handed or two-handed removal of the tray apparatus from the high chair; and a memory feature which facilitates removal of the tray apparatus and attachment thereof at the same position relative to the high chair.

  • Patent number: 4777672
Abstract: A children's toilet apparatus is disclosed that is convertible from a free-standing potty chair to a toilet trainer that cooperates with a conventional toilet. The apparatus principally comprises a toilet seat member and adjustable legs which are pivotally interconnected. When employed as a free-standing potty chair, the leg members independently support the toilet seat member. When utilized as a toilet trainer, the leg members are oriented so that the toilet seat member is stabilized on and about the water closet seat of a conventional toilet by virtue of the interconnection of the toilet seat member and the leg members and contact of one of the leg members with a floor surface. In a preferred arrangement, one of the leg members is provided with a step member and hand grips to aid children in positioning themselves on top of the toilet seat member when the apparatus is employed as a toilet trainer.

  • Patent number: 4763911
Abstract: A foldable baby carriage is provided which is foldable to a compact, reduced volume configuration having a height and width essentially less than or equal to the height and width of the back member. In the folded configuration, two of the components, preferably the back member and rear wheels support, cooperate to form a shell which encloses the other two major components of the carriage, preferably the seat member and the front wheels support.

  • Patent number: 4492263
Abstract: An infant security door gate is adapted for releasable disposition between opposed sides of a doorway and comprises upper and lower expansible support bars which are telescopingly adjustable to conform to the space between the sides and at the same time are spring-loaded so as to yieldingly engage the sides under spring tension at any adjusted position, and a pair of complementary slidably interfitting panels are arranged for adjustable disposition on separate telescoping portions of the support bars so as to follow the expansion and contraction of the support bars to substantially close the opening between opposite sides. The panels are characterized by being of corresponding construction and having complementary slidably interconnecting portions for ease of adjustment, or expansion and contraction, in following the telescoping movement of the support bars.

  • Patent number: 4323233
Abstract: An infant swing includes a uni-axial weight-biased pendulum escapement motor actuator with a weighted body that glides up and down one of the support legs of the swing and a rewind apparatus having a coiled torsion spring which rewinds the weight cord around a reel when the weight is repositioned to a position of potential energy useable for actuating the swing, and an axially biased unidirectional slip clutch. The swing also includes two rear legs which extend downwardly from a frame to support the swing in combination with two similarly downwardly extending front legs, the rear legs being foldable into parallel relation to the front legs for transportation and storage.

  • Patent number: 4091965
Abstract: A container for flowable materials such as baby food and the like has a circular shaped enclosing cap with a port opening into the interior of the container. A cover having an elongated hollow extension terminating in a feeder or dispenser portion releasably engages the circular cap so that the hollow extension can be rotatably aligned with the cap port thereby allowing transfer of flowable materials from the container into the feeder portion by gravity, flexure of the container or both. The cover is rotatable on the circular cap so as to control the amount of opening alignment with the cap port between a fully open and fully sealing closure position. The cover and cap can include cooperating stops for facilitating alignment and closure. An O-ring in surrounding relation to the cap port provides additional sealing.

  • Patent number: 3989173
Abstract: A child carrier of the type adapted to be carried on a person's back and having a framework with spaced side frame members includes a novel form of leg stand with a hinged connection to the side frame members for movement between an extended supporting position and a contracted non-supporting position so as to cooperate with the framework when extended to stabilize the child carrier in a vertical orientation on a supporting surface and which when contracted fits closely adjacent to the framework so as not to be an encumbrance when the child carrier is used to support a child on the person's back.
