  • Patent number: 5752478
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders each having at least one intake valve, at least one exhaust valve, and a crankshaft. The control system has an electromagnetic driving section which electromagnetically causes opening and closing of at least one of the at least one intake valve and the at least one exhaust valve. A crank angle sensor generates a crank angle signal whenever the crankshaft rotates through a predetermined angle, and a cylinder position sensor generates a cylinder-discriminating signal indicative of a predetermined crank angle of a particular cylinder of a plurality of the cylinders. A piston position sensor detects an operating state or position of the piston of each of the plurality of the cylinders, based on the generated crank angle signal and the generated cylinder-discriminating signal.

  • Patent number: 5585788
Abstract: A data transmission system for automotive vehicles in which messages are transmitted by circulating a transmission right signal among a plurality of electronic control units, by a token passing method. Each of the electronic control units judges that the right to transmit a message to the network bus has been acquired when it is determined that the transmission right signal has not been circulated for a predetermined time period, and at the same time an idle state of the network bus has been detected. If a collision of the transmitted message with any other message is detected, the above process is repeated after the lapse of a waiting time period specific to the electronic control unit which judged that the right to transmit a message had been acquired.

  • Patent number: 5473889
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine detects a central value of an output from a first exhaust gas component concentration sensor arranged in an exhaust passage at a location upstream of a catalytic converter and having an output characteristic which is substantially proportional to the concentration of a component in the exhaust gases. The central value is corrected based on the output from the first exhaust gas component concentration sensor, when an output from a second exhaust gas concentration sensor arranged downstream of the catalytic converter falls within a predetermined range. The output from the first exhaust gas component concentration sensor is corrected based on the corrected central value. An air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine is corrected based on the corrected output value from the first exhaust gas component concentration sensor.

  • Patent number: 5398501
Abstract: An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine having a catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust system, a first air-fuel ratio sensor arranged upstream of the catalytic converter, and a second air-fuel ratio sensor arranged downstream of the catalytic converter, calculates an air-fuel ratio control variable, based on an output from the second air-fuel ratio sensor. An air-fuel ratio correction amount is calculated based on an output from the first air-fuel ratio sensor and the air-fuel ratio control variable. The air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine is controlled based on the air-fuel ratio correction amount. The air-fuel ratio control variable is corrected in the rich direction such that the air-fuel ratio of the mixture supplied to the engine becomes richer, when deterioration of the catalytic converter is detected.

  • Patent number: 5179929
Abstract: A method of detecting deterioration of an exhaust gas ingredient concentration sensor for use in controlling an air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to an internal combustion engine having an exhaust system in which the sensor is arranged. The sensor has an output characteristic approximately proportional to concentration of a specific ingredient in exhaust gases emitted from the engine. The air-fuel ratio is feedback-controlled to a desired air-fuel ratio by calculating an amount of fuel supplied to the engine by the use of a desired air-fuel ratio coefficient indicative of the desired air-fuel ratio and set in dependence on operating conditions of the engine, and an air-fuel ratio correction coefficient set in dependence on a value of an output from the sensor and the desired air-fuel ratio coefficient. A plurality of average values of the air-fuel ratio correction coefficient are calculated, respectively, when the desired air-fuel ratio falls within a plurality of predetermined ranges.

  • Patent number: 4926825
Abstract: A method of controlling in a feedback manner the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture being supplied to an internal combustion engine of the type that vaporized fuel is supplied from a fuel supply system to an intake system thereof. The air-fuel ratio is controlled by the use of a correction value which varies in response to an output from an exhaust gas ingredient sensor, and the maximum or minimum value of which is limited to an upper or lower limit value. The pressure of the vaporized fuel in the fuel supply system is sensed, and at least one of the upper and lower limit values is set in accordance with the sensed pressure of the vaporized fuel. Further, the air-fuel ratio is controlled by the use of an average value of the correction value. The pressure of the vaporized fuel in the fuel supply system is sensed, and the calculation of the average value is inhibited when the sensed pressure of the vaporized fuel is higher than a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4891947
Abstract: A method of controlling supercharging pressure in an internal combustion engine, wherein the supercharging pressure is controlled by controlling a control amount for operating a supercharging pressure control device. The control amount is controlled in feedback control mode responsive to the difference between the actual value of the supercharging pressure and a desired value thereof when the supercharging pressure is in a steady state, and at the same time a learned value of the correction value is obtained by calculating values of same applied during the feedback control. The control amount is controlled in open loop control mode based upon the learned value when the supercharging pressure is in a transient state. The calculation of the learned value is inhibited when a predetermined condition is satisfied during the steady state. The predetermined condition is satisfied when the desired value of the supercharging pressure is set to a different value than a normal value set during the steady state.

  • Patent number: 4796589
Abstract: A method of effecting feedback control of the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture being supplied to an internal combustion engine, to bring the air-fuel ratio to desired values by correcting a fuel quantity to be supplied to the engine by means of a correction coefficient which varies in response to output from an exhaust gas concentration sensor, when the engine is operating in an air-fuel ratio feedback control region. An average value of values of the correction coefficient obtained is calculated while the engine is operating in the feedback control region. The calculated average value is corrected in dependence on a temperature of the engine and the feedback control is initiated by using the corrected average value as an initial value of the correction coefficient when the engine has shifted into the feedback control region from the another region. The calculated average value is corrected to such a value as to make the air-fuel ratio leaner as the engine temperature is lower.
