  • Patent number: 11311875
Abstract: The invention relates to a sample device that allows for simultaneous analysis of multiple liquid samples (e.g., drinking water samples). More specifically, the sample device is adapted for use with a mobile water analyzer, the sample device including an upwardly open receptacle divided into a plurality of separate upwardly open compartments separated by dividing walls. Each of the compartments is configured to contain a separate water sample, and the sample device is adapted to receive the inlet opening of a removable test element of a mobile water analyzer.

  • Patent number: 10968113
Abstract: The invention relates to a device and method to quantify the lead exposure of an aqueous feed to humans, remove lead from the aqueous feed, and identify the presence of lead service lines. The device includes an inlet to receive a lead-containing aqueous feed; an outlet to discharge a lead-depleted treated aqueous feed; and at least one cartridge containing sampling media positioned so that the lead-containing aqueous feed passes from the inlet and through the cartridge to produce the lead-depleted treated aqueous feed for discharge through the outlet.

  • Patent number: 10890343
Abstract: A real-time system and method for personal air pollution exposure and inhaled dose management is described. A personal device (e.g., smartphone) determines personal exposure and inhaled dose metrics (e.g., daily accumulated dose), and compares daily histories of these metrics with personal health histories (e.g., self-reported daily asthma symptoms/inhaler use) to provide notifications when adverse health effects (e.g., asthma exacerbation) are likely to occur. The system notifications provide a personalized exposure/dose management tool by recommending behavioral changes to reduce exposure/dose (e.g., change time-location, time-physical activities, building operation). These behavioral changes are then used by the system to modify the real-time exposure and dose determined by the system.

  • Patent number: 10830684
Abstract: The method of the invention provides a simple, reproducible reference, or set of reference standards, as a validation of a calibration standard for filter-based measurements of light absorbing aerosol particles (black carbon and brown carbon) and organic carbon and elemental carbon particles found in indoor and outdoor environments, and in emission streams. The set of reference standards comprise grayscale images deposited by a mist or print at a known density on a substrate material. The reference standards may be made by a printer using as a substrate either paper or another material such as glass fiber, quartz fiber, polypropylene, or cellulose.

  • Patent number: 4842748
Abstract: Methods for removing volatile organic substances from water employ flash vaporization techniques. The methods comprise providing water which contains volatile organic substances and is at a pressure of at least about 35 psig, releasing the water into a vacuum chamber maintained under a vacuum in the range of about 1 to about 5 psia, removing resulting vapors from the chamber, and collecting liquid water from the chamber. At least a portion of the volatile organic substances originally contained in the water are removed as vapors from the vacuum chamber.
