  • Patent number: 4335757
Abstract: A temporary pipeline capping unit wherein the unit is permanently attached over an opening in a pipeline and includes a capped branch line nipple and an internal element isolating the branch line nipple from the pipeline opening whereby a branch line can be connected to the pipeline by uncapping the branch line nipple and attaching the branch line to this nipple. The internal element is forced by the fluid pressure in the pipeline to a position communicating the subsequently installed branch line with the pipeline opening.

  • Patent number: 4331367
Abstract: A sealed compound bearing consisting of an outer and an inner member movable relative to each other and between which are disposed load carrying annular members. The load carrying annular members comprise a pair of elastomeric rings held between the outer and inner members under compression, and a metallic ring insert disposed between and separating the two elastomeric rings. A narrow clearance is provided between the peripheral surface of the metallic ring insert and the inner surface of the bearing outer member, and between the metallic ring inner surface and the inner member peripheral surface. Normal loads are taken and absorbed by the elastomeric rings, while overloads and shock loads are taken by the metallic ring insert.

  • Patent number: 4331014
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for forming a chime bead adjacent the closed end of a seamless cup-shaped metal can body and a plurality of peripheral beads intermediate the opposite ends of the can body. The apparatus includes a plurality of beading spindles receiving and supporting can bodies for movement along an arcuate path. The beading spindles are provided with beading tool portions corresponding to the chime and intermediate beads to be formed on a can body. The frame supports axially offset and sequentially arranged outer beading rails positioned along the arcuate path of spindle movement. During movement of the spindles along the path between input and output stations of the apparatus, can bodies on the spindles are rotated about the spindle axes and, as each can body moves past the outer beading rails, the beading tool portions of the spindles and the outer beading rails cooperatively engage a can body therebetween to sequentially form first the chime bead and then the intermediate beads on the can body.

  • Patent number: 4306883
Abstract: An improved technique is provided for forming coal into a stabilized coal-oil mixture. Coal, in a fine mesh size, is admixed with oil, a monomeric compound, a reaction initiator and a reaction catalyst at elevated temperatures and under a condition of low shear. The coal mixture is thereafter immediately subjected to a condition of high shear at the maintained elevated temperature. The mixture is then admixed with a gelling agent to form a stable coal-oil mixture. According to the technique, coal of significantly greater water content than heretofore thought acceptable, is formed to a stable coal-oil mixture in a ready manner. In addition, the amount of monomeric compound heretofore thought needed to form the desired stable mixture is substantially reduced, resulting in improved process efficiency. In its preferred aspect, the process is adapted to treat raw coal which has first been subjected to pulverization, chemical surface treatment, separation from ash and sulfur, and drying.

The spring assembly including a pair of longitudinally extending wires, each wire having a resilient layer thereon, a plurality of transversely extending wires having free ends wound about the layers of the longitudinally extending wires. Each free end of each transverse wire is partially wound about a longitudinally extending wire and then extends over an auxiliary longitudinal wire parallel with but spaced inwardly of the longitudinal wire. Finally, the extreme free end of each transverse wire is bent inwardly toward the plane of the transverse wires. A plurality of tension springs have one end connected to a longitudinally extending wire and the other end to a rail of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4288001
Abstract: A pressure device is provided with a cover member which is removably attached thereto by a pair of clamping rings which are hydraulically actuated laterally outwardly and inwardly relative to flanges on the pressure device and cover member to respectively release the cover and interengage the cover with the device. The clamping rings are pivotally interconnected with the device such that lateral outward displacement of the clamping rings is accompanied by radial outward displacement of the pivot axis to provide clearance for removal of the cover member. The clamping ring members are guided during a portion of the lateral inward and outward displacement thereof, and the guide arrangement supports the clamping rings in the laterally outermost positions thereof.

  • Patent number: 4283046
Abstract: A seat construction comprising a spring assembly including a pair of longitudinally extending wires, a plurality of transversely extending spaced spring wires, portions of which are wound around the longitudinally extending wires to define an intermediate portion extending between the spaced longitudinally extending wires and free ends extending beyond the longitudinally extending wires. An additional longitudinally extending wire is connected to the free ends of the transversely extending wires along each end of the longitudinally extending wires. The portions of the transversely extending wires between one of the first-mentioned longitudinally extending and one of the additional longitudinally extending wires is curved so that that additional longitudinally extending wire is spaced from the plane of the remaining longitudinally extending wires.

  • Patent number: 4272980
Abstract: A pair of press tools, such as punches, are mounted on a tool support for axial reciprocation between extended and retracted positions with respect to the support. The tool support may be defined by a press slide, bed or component part of a tooling package mountable thereon and is provided with a hydraulic fluid receiving cylinder for each of the tools. Each tool is interconnected with a piston received in the corresponding cylinder and the cylinders are in flow communication with one another. Accordingly, if one of the tools engages a workpiece before the other during operation of the press, the one tool is displaced in the direction of retraction causing the other tool to be displaced in the direction of extension until both tools engage the workpiece, thus to avoid eccentric loading of the press slide and frame.

  • Patent number: 4238950
Abstract: A double acting press is disclosed having upper and lower vertically reciprocable slides and a bolster assembly therebetween, which bolster and slides support tooling for cutting and drawing a cup-shaped article from a flat blank of sheet metal in response to a cycle of reciprocation of the upper and lower slides. The bolster assembly is releaseably clamped in place with respect to the press frame during press operation and is adapted to be released from the frame and supported for rolling movement laterally outwardly of the frame to facilitate tool inspection, maintenance and replacement operations. Tooling associated with the upper and lower slides is adapted to be supported by the bolster assembly so that the entire tool package is movable into and out of the press confines with the bolster assembly.
