    Abstract: A method of limiting the discharge pressure for turbo compressors by means of a blowoff control which is controlled by an anti-surge controller along with means for measuring the discharge pressure and an extreme value selector as well as means for measuring the pressure flow rate and for generating a signal from a manual controller, comprises, measuring the discharge pressure, comparing the measured pressure with a desired maximum pressure to produce a pressure control signal, measuring the compressor flow rate, comparing the measured flow rate with a minimum permissible flow rate to provide a flow rate control, directing a signal from a manual controller to the value selector to generate a manual controller signal and feeding each of the pressure control signal, flow rate control signal, and manual controller signal to the anti-surge controller to provide a control of the blowoff valve in accordance therewith.

    Abstract: A cooling device for use with a refractory lining in a smelting plant, such as a blast furnace and particularly a shaft furnace, includes an inner refractory lining, an outer steel jacket, and a plate member located between them. Preferably, the plate member is cast and anchoring members are cast into each plate member and extend only from the plate member surface facing toward the steel jacket. The anchoring member secures the steel jacket and plate members together and also holds them in spaced relation. Various embodiments of anchoring members can be used. In one embodiment a blind bore is provided within the anchoring member and a thermocouple extends into the blind bore from the steel jacket for measuring the operating temperature of the plate member.

    Abstract: A hydromatic planer particularly for mining materials in a mining seam comprises a planer housing which advantageously has a cutting and breaking head on each end thereof, each of which includes a substantially identical construction. Each cutting head includes a vertically arranged support member which is mounted on the housing of the planer by a parallel linkage so that it may be moved upwardly and downwardly under the control of an adjustment means such as a fluid pressure operated piston and cylinder combination. Each cutting and breaking head also includes a first substantially vertically arranged support member which is connected by the linkage for upward and downward movement relative to the housing and a second support member which is movable relative to the first and mounted on this first in vertical guides for upward and downward movement.

    Abstract: A vehicular power shovel having its movable shovel member located forwardly of the front axle thereof is equipped with a toggle lever device and a hydraulic power cylinder mechanism for actuating the shovel member. The shovel member is mounted upon a lift arm structure which is pivotally mounted upon the frame of the apparatus at a point behind the front axle. Both the toggle lever device and the hydraulic power cylinder mechanism are pivotally attached to the frame of the apparatus and are located behind the front axle. The power cylinder operates to actuate the toggle lever device and it is connected thereto at a point other than the buckling joint of the toggle lever. Furthermore, the power cylinder is located rearwardly of the point at which the rear end of the lift arm mechanism is pivotally connected to the frame.

    Abstract: A subsurface coal bunker operating to receive and discharge coal is structured with an assemblage of nested telescopic container members including one stationary member and a plurality of movable members, with the container members being formed in size in a graduated series with each container member being sized to fit into a next larger container member adjacent thereto. The movable members are telescopically extensible and contractible in order to vary the volume of the assemblage and the bunker assembly is provided with a first belt conveyor for feeding material into the assemblage and a second belt conveyor for transporting material therefrom. A reversible drive mechanism, consisting of hydraulic cylinder devices actuating a system of drive chains and pulleys, is mounted on a support frame of the bunker and operates to drive the movable members between the extended and contracted positions.

    Abstract: A method of regulating the output quantity of compressed medium of single and multi-stage screw and turbo compressor systems, comprises, throttling the suction to the compressor systems with a throttling valve by fluid-pressure operation of the valve, sensing the pressure of the discharge of the compressor systems, closing the throttle valve in accordance with the pressure which is sensed and bleeding the medium after it is passed through the compressors and in a proportion to the pressure which is sensed and only after the throttling valve is moved through a proportional closing movement. The device for operating the compressor systems for regulating the quantity of medium includes a throttle valve in the suction having a valve member movable between opened and closed positions and with a control piston connected to the throttle valve to shift the valve member.

    Abstract: A diffusion barrier and separation substance for metal parts which adjoin each other in an oxygen-free, inert and preferably a helium-containing atmosphere such as used in a closed-cycle high temperature reactor or gas turbine comprises first and second adjoining metal parts with a hexagonal boron nitride placed between said parts. The hexagonal boron nitride is applied to the boundary surface of the metal parts in an aqueous or organic suspension prepared as a pasty, putty-like or brushable liquid substance. The substance contains from 5 to 50% of boron nitride, from 0.5 to 30% of binders and from 2 to 6% of swelling agents and 50 to 90% liquid suspension medium. The suspension medium may advantageously contain an anti corrosive agent and in addition the formed protective film is burned from 0.25 to 3 hours at a temperature of from 100.degree. to 500.degree. C.

The pontoon advantageously includes at least one console on one side to accommodate the ballasting equipment and it has advantageously mated separable bottom box shaped tanks which are interconnected with a side tank having a console and upward extension.

    Abstract: A method of avoiding emission of carbon monoxide from the exhaust gases of oxygen converters comprises collecting the gases of the converter in a cooling stack and directing the gases from the cooling stack through a dust collector to a clean gas stack in which they are permitted to flow out through the top and preferably through a burning device for burning them off. To insure that the gases remain burnable an additional fuel gas is fed into the clean gas stack for combining with the other gases and in quantities which are proportional to the content of carbon monoxide and oxygen in the gases which are circulated. An apparatus for carrying out the method includes a connection between a cooling gas stack in which the gases are collected from the converter to a clean gas stack which includes a dust collector and a blower for circulating the gases.
