Patents Assigned to Hacker Instruments, Inc.
  • Patent number: 4752304
Abstract: In the embodiment depicted, the apparatus has a pair of contra-rotating stropping wheels to, and between which successive blades are carried for stropping. A blade-carrier magazine is supported on a rack for slidable translation thereof below a transversingly-travelling blade clamp. A solenoid operates the clamp to cause it to sieze a blade from the therebelow magazine and carry it to the stropping wheels while holding the blade fast. After a blade has been adequately stropped, the clamp returns it to the magazine, to its individual carrier, and displaces a limit stop to allow the magazine to advance and present a next blade to the clamp. The clamp is threadedly engaged with a drive screw, whereby the clamp is moved back and forth between the wheels. Corresponding fore and aft drive clutches, driven by a dual-speed motor, rotate the drive screw, alternatingly, in clockwise and counter-clockwise rotations.

  • Patent number: 4685564
Abstract: The magazine comprises a platform upon which, in slidable disposition, are carried a plurality of blade carriers. The carriers are movable sidewise of the platform, and each such carrier defines a recess in which to nest a blade. The carrier recess is formed of a pair of limbs rising from a base, one of the limbs being integral with the base, and the other being pivotably coupled to an end of the base. The limbs have mutually confronting channels formed therein, with springs set therein, for receiving and latching therein a blade. The pivotable lime is so coupled to the base to allow it to slue and open the recess formed of the confronting channels, so as to release a blade held therein, and to accommodate its closure of the recess by its slueing in the opposite direction to latch and hold a blade in the recess.

  • Patent number: 4052174
Abstract: In one depicted embodiment of the invention the apparatus comprises a base on which a pair of honing wheels of a given, common diameter, and a pair of stropping wheels of another, common diameter are supported and rotatively driven -- the pairs being spaced apart from each other, and the wheels of each pair also being spaced therebetween. A blade support is carried on rails for pendantly carrying a blade and moving the blade across the peripheral faces of the wheels, the rails being arranged above the wheels. The honing wheels diameter is greater than that of the stropping wheels, thus as the blade is stroked across the honing wheels the latter engage and hone the full blade edge, whereas with the blade being stroked across the stropping wheels, the latter engage and strop only the furthermost tip portion of the blade edge.
