  • Patent number: 5050361
Abstract: A deck structure primarily of aluminum members is assembled in modular panels, with each panel formed of a series of edge to edge deck planks connected into cross members at each end of the planks. Panels are connected lengthwise by interconnection of cross members at the ends of adjacent panels. In a preferred embodiment the cross members are connected by an interengaging flanges, and a plastic wedge is forced between the cross members to prevent disconnection. Preferably no welds are used in assembly of the aluminum frame structure, and the weldless deck structure has very good resistance to cyclical stresses particularly in a marine environment. Another important feature is that the panel framing members actually become structural supporting members in the assembled deck.
