  • Patent number: 5613817
Abstract: A tack strip assembly for use in securing upholstery fabric to furniture or the like includes an elongate metal tack strip and an elongate protective vinyl or other suitable plastic sleeve which generally surrounds the tack strip. The tack strip has a base portion and a plurality of integrally formed, spaced tacks which extend outwardly from the base portion and a plurality of spaced apertures in the base portion. The sleeve has a bottom portion which generally overlays a bottom surface of the base portion and portions which overlay the side edges and portions of the top surface of the base portion. The sleeve has a tab or a plurality of tabs formed in its bottom surface, each of which extends into an aperture in the base portion to restrain relative endwise movement between the sleeve and the base portion and to minimize the possibility of the sleeve from detaching from the tack strip.

  • Patent number: 5212838
Abstract: A molded plastic cap buckle and adjustment strap are provided for adjusting the circumference of the head band of a cap to adjust the cap to the head of a user. The buckle is secured to one end of the head band of the cap and the adjustment strap is secured at the other end of the head band. The buckle is made from a unitary member having parts hinged together along an elongated axis that lies generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the adjustment strap. The buckle and strap have cooperating recesses and projections for securing the buckle and strap in selected adjusted position. The recesses and projections are constructed to provide for one-way longitudinal movement of the strap relative to the buckle in one direction when the buckle and strap are assembled to reduce the effective circumference of the head band, but preclude longitudinal movement in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4875257
Abstract: A back support structure for mounting a tack and for a securement to a front button shell of a decorative tack button, has a structure including a plastic support member integrally molded to include an annular body having an open central recess, a bottom wall formed below the recess, and a through-aperture opening into said recess. Said body also has an interior wall extending inwardly from said bottom wall and an apertured tack retainer member is inserted into said recess and supported on said bottom wall. Said interior wall has a portion of the plastic of the support member deformed radially inwardly against said retainer member to clamp said retainer member against said bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 4700435
Abstract: A tack button utilizes a pivot tack that has a long taper on its shank which prevents buckling and a subsequent loose connection of the assembled button parts, particularly the assembly of the back member of the button with the fabric to which the button is being attached. The long tapered shank curls as the assembly process is carried out so that a curled structure is within the button shell and is positioned to clinch the back member to the fabric.

  • Patent number: 4680915
Abstract: A panel retainer comprises a one-piece, integrally formed member, formed from a resilient, elastically bendable material, and having a fastener-receiving portion and a panel-gripping portion. The fastener-receiving portion comprises a body portion having a top surface and a substantially flat bottom surface spaced from the top surface and defining a through aperture for receiving a fastener to secure the retainer to a given surface. The panel-gripping portion comprises a further body portion projecting from the first body portion and having a tapered surface portion diverging from the first body bottom flat surface for engagement with a panel to be retained thereby. The gripping portion is flexible in the area where it joins with the fastener-receiving portion to permit resilient, elastic bending thereof for engagement of the tapered surface in a surface-to-surface engagement with the panel.

  • Patent number: 4577373
Abstract: A button collet for a tufting button comprises a one piece resilient plastic body having a projecting stem that includes a shank and a hook for receiving a tufting loop. The stem has shoulders on its opposite sides in the region of juncture of the shank and the hook. When tension is applied to the loop the forces tending to open the hook are resisted by counter forces applied against the shoulders by the loop, thereby effectively increasing the tensile strength of the collet.

  • Patent number: 4037813
Abstract: A one-piece plastic shelf support has a back portion with a shelf-receiving flange projecting from one side thereof and a stem projecting from the other side thereof. The back portion also includes adjacent sections that form an obtuse angle with a shoulder at the vertex of the angle and presented toward the flange. The aforesaid adjacent sections yield resiliently and flatten out as the shelf edge portion is snapped past the shoulder to seat on the flange, whereby the shelf edge portion is confined between the flange and the shoulder.
