Patent number: 7743558Abstract: A double sliding door arrangement cooperating with a double-wide door opening formed in an upright wall. A top header beam extends across and defines the upper extremity of the door opening. A pre-tensioning arrangement mounted on and extending lengthwise of the top header beam causes the header beam to be deflected upwardly into a shallow bowed shape. A support track is fixed to and extends lengthwise of the header beam and horizontally for predetermined distances along and rigidly fixed to the wall adjacent right and left sides of the door opening. Right and left slab doors are supported on and vertically suspended downwardly from said track in sidewardly co-planar relationship, and are movable along said track between closed and open positions. The doors in the closed position vertically load and downwardly deflect the header beam, whereby the initial upwardly bowed shape minimizes outward swinging between opposed inner edges of the doors when in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2006Date of Patent: June 29, 2010Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Rupert Jakob-Bamberg, Nolan McRae, Kevin Bagnall, Luke Fabian Smith, Vincent Shivak, Steven McIlvenna

Patent number: 7661237Abstract: A snap-on attachment structure for attaching a side skin to an upright frame of a wall system. The attachment structure includes resilient attachment strips secured to the rear of the skin and extending along upright edges thereof. Each strip cooperates with a projection formed on an upright frame member and extending vertically therealong. The snap-on strip has a pair of cantilevered spring legs which protrude outwardly in angled relationship. The spring legs adjacent outer ends are provided with coil-shaped head parts which protrude inwardly toward one another. The head parts have hollow arcuate configurations and move into gripping engagement with shallow arcuate recesses formed on opposite sides of the projection.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2006Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Rupert Jakob-Bamberg, Robert Steeves, Steven McIlvenna, Kevin T. Patent number: 7650726Abstract: A floor panel for a raised access floor system, including a shallow metal pan with a bottom wall and a shallow upwardly-opening compartment. The bottom wall has a plurality of first hollow projections projecting upwardly therefrom, which projections adjacent upper ends thereof having sidewardly projecting rib structure. The bottom wall also has a plurality of microfeatures which project upwardly through a lesser extent. The number of microfeatures is substantially greater than the number of projections. The pan side walls and bottom wall are free of openings therethrough. A mass of solidified concrete fills the compartment. The floor panel is supported on a pedestal having a base which has clamping and mounting features integrated thereon for engaging grounding wires and cable management members.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2005Date of Patent: January 26, 2010Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Rupert Jakob-Bamberg, Dale Marshall, Darren Long, Jay Clintberg, Vincent Shivak, Paul Spavor

Patent number: 7543412Abstract: A pair of upright wall panels are each provided with a sidewardly spaced pair of generally parallel but inclined guide grooves extending vertically along the outer face of the upright frame edge rails. A connector assembly including a main activator rod having a pair of wedge members threaded thereon in spaced relationship therealong is positioned between the opposed upright edge rails. The wedge members have wedgelike edge flanges which protrude into the grooves of the opposed upright edge rails. Rotation of the activating rod causes the wedge members to simultaneously move relative to the rod in opposite directions to effect gripping engagement with the groove walls to simultaneously effect a drawing together of the edge rails and alignment thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2004Date of Patent: June 9, 2009Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Darren R. Long, Nathan S. Shedd, Rupert Jakob-Bamberg, Kevin T. Domagala, Aaron D. Mullin, Vincent A. Shivak, Dale Marshall

Patent number: 7530540Abstract: A structural post arrangement and cooperating clamp assembly positioning and supporting related furniture components, such as beams. The clamping assembly includes a split clamping collar which surrounds the post and defines upper and lower rims for engagement with top and bottom jaws as coupled to a furniture component.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Darren Long, Brian Gallant, Tom Brown

Patent number: 7484819Abstract: A reveal is formed on a piece of furniture by fastening a reveal frame to a front edge of a furniture body. The reveal frame is fastened to the body by plural double-ended barbed fasteners that engage both a channel in the reveal frame and a channel formed in the front edge of the body.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: February 3, 2009Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Kenneth Frederick, Dariusz Gorniak, Adrian Farcas, Robert Steeves

Patent number: 7434364Abstract: A pair of upright wall panels are each provided with a sidewardly spaced pair of generally parallel but inclined guide grooves extending vertically along the outer face of the upright frame edge rails. A connector assembly including a main activator rod having a pair of wedge members threaded thereon in spaced relationship therealong is positioned between the opposed upright edge rails. The wedge members have wedgelike edge flanges which protrude into the grooves of the opposed upright edge rails. Rotation of the activating rod causes the wedge members to simultaneously move relative to the rod in opposite directions between a first end position wherein the wedge members effect gripping engagement with the groove walls to simultaneously effect a drawing together of the edge rails and alignment thereof, and a second end position wherein the wedge members clampingly engage only a single edge rail to facilitate initial mounting of the connector assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2005Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Scott MacDermott, Laura A. Patent number: 7377076Abstract: A handle-latch assembly mounted on a horizontal sliding door and coupled to a vertically movable latch bolt which protrudes outwardly from a top or bottom door edge, and which enables the inside and outside handles of the door to be respectively used for moving the door in closing and opening directions. The door has a manual lock actuator on the inside of the door, and an optional key-lock actuator on the outside of the door, whereby latching the door in the closed position requires a deliberate manual manipulation of either the inner lock actuator or the outer key actuator. The assembly permits sequential unlocking and opening of the door from the inside by application of a single horizontally-directed force to the inner handle. The handle-latch mechanism includes cooperating linkages, and the linkages are automatically reset into an unlocked position whenever the locked door is opened from the inside.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2004Date of Patent: May 27, 2008Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventor: Nathaniel S. Shedd

Patent number: 7013687Abstract: A sliding door having an improved handle and lock assembly associated therewith. The assembly enables a closed and locked sliding door to be unlocked and opened by manual application of a single-motion to the door handle, such as a substantially horizontally-directed force applied to the door handle in the opening direction to effect unlocking of the door followed by movement of the sliding door into an open position.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2003Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: Haworth, Ltd.Inventors: Nathaniel Segismundo Shedd, Darren R.
