  • Publication number: 20070145737
Abstract: In a method for providing a pipeline assembly, having an inner pipeline and an outer pipeline, the outer pipeline is formed by welding outer pipe sections together. A thermal shielding is provided to protect the inner pipeline from the heat generated by the welding of the outer pipe sections. The thermal shielding had a low thermal conductivity and is heat resistant. The thermal shielding may have an annular form. The method may be used in laying a deep sea pipeline assembly and used in a J-lay method or S-lay method of laying pipes.

  • Publication number: 20070023479
Abstract: A method and apparatus for joining pipe sections (102, 104) together to form an underwater pipeline. The pipe sections (102, 104) are in an abutting position and have a generally vertical orientation. An upper end (108) of the most recently joined pipe sections (104) is to be welded to a lower end (106) of a new pipe section (102). The apparatus comprises at least two welding equipment carriers (148, 152) and at least two welding heads (110, 112). Each welding head is connected to an equipment carrier (148, 152) by means of at least one umbilical (130, 132). The apparatus further comprises a welding head guide assembly (113) which is adapted to be fixed to one of said upper of lower pipe sections. The welding head guide assembly (113) guides the welding heads about the pipe sections (102, 104). The apparatus further comprises a guiding device (133) which guides the welding equipment carriers (148, 152) around said welding area (115).

  • Publication number: 20060086011
Abstract: With a method and device for producing a channel in the ground, in a first step, an excavating device is positioned at the starting point of a channel to be produced. The excavating device has an excavating head which is provided with one or more liquid jetting devices. Then, a mixture of soil and water is formed by spraying liquid from the liquid jetting devices. This mixture is discharged. The excavating head advances in the excavating direction while the liquid is being sprayed. Thus, the channel is produced. When the end point of the excavation has been reached, at least a part of the excavating device is uncoupled and moved back to the starting point of the channel, so it can be used again.

  • Patent number: 6592297
Abstract: A method and apparatus for near vertical laying of a pipeline offshore by a pipe laying vessel includes a tower to which is attached a strongback that load pipe sections from a supply point on the vessel into the tower where the lower end of the pipe section is welded onto the upper end of a pipe line that extends into the sea while the strongback returns to the supply point for a second pipe joint. Where the pipe section includes a bulky item such as a valve assembly box, after the pipe section has been welded to the pipeline the pipe section is moved generally horizontally out of the tower and a hoisting cable lowers the pipe section to a predetermined depth below the tower. The hoisting cable then returns the pipe section and attached pipeline to their original position.

  • Publication number: 20030077125
Abstract: A method of fitting a lining in a pipeline is disclosed comprising the steps of providing a flexible tubular liner having a cross section sized to fit the pipeline, attaching a pig which is a close fit in the pipeline to an end of the liner and locating the pig in the pipeline. The liner is compacted to a reduced cross-section on or prior to entry to the pipeline to facilitate passage of the liner along the pipeline, and a fluid pressure is applied to the pig to cause the pig to pass along the pipeline and, to draw the liner into the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 6511261
Abstract: The method for removing or positioning a structure (103) which is erected on either an underwater bed or anchored to the underwater bed entails the use of a hoisting mechanism. When the structure (103) is being removed, it is detached from the underwater bed. Then, the structure (103) is connected to a hoisting mechanism which is arranged on a separate hoisting vessel (100). The structure is hoisted up by the hoisting mechanism and is attached to a transport vessel (1) in such a manner that it can tilt about a horizontal axis. Then, the structure is tilted into a substantially horizontal position. The structure is positioned in the reverse order.
