    Abstract: The subject invention provides a weatherstrip assembly for sealing between a frame and a closure member of a vehicle. The weatherstrip assembly includes a body having an exterior surface and an interior surface defining a channel. The body has a plurality of retaining lips extending into the channel. A seal extends from the exterior surface. A locking fin has a first end and a second end. The first end of the locking fin is mounted to one of the interior surface and the exterior surface and the second end of the locking fin disposed within the channel. A shim extends from the second end of the locking fin. The shim engages the interior surface and supports the locking fin within the channel. The retaining lips and the locking fin at least partially define a slot for sandwiching the frame between the retaining lips and the locking fin within the slot.

The dual end cap has a cover that extends beyond the first and second seal, for providing an aesthetic transition between the first and second seals. The dual end cap also has a hold down feature extending opposite the first projection. The hold down feature engages at least a portion of the third distal end of the second seal such that the portion of the third distal end is sandwiched between the cover and the hold down feature for securing the dual end cap to the second seal.

A portion of the extruded material (19) is cut away and replaced by molded material molded onto the extruded part (19) for the portion of the strip into which the quarter light (11) is mounted.

At least one securing flange is coupled to the second distal end for fastening the carrier to the motor vehicle. A living hinge is disposed between the securing flange and the second distal end, such that the securing flange is moveable independent of the carrier. The living hinge comprises a first section having a generally recessed configuration and a first thickness, and a second section having a generally planar configuration and a second thickness.

The sealing assembly comprises a sealing, trimming or guiding strip comprising a length of extruded material, a polypropylene or the like part which is joined to the window glass at an edge of the window glass, and a molded material, which is joined to the polypropylene or the like part and connected to said sealing strip. The molded material is preferably made of TPE. The strip is preferably made of EPDM. The molded material is molded in a mold with the polypropylene or the like part, which has previously been molded onto the window glass, and the strip to mold onto and thereby connect to these parts.

Preferably, the carrier is manufactured in a continuous length, the elastomeric material is extruded or molded thereover and the resulting product is cut into useable lengths having the desired more flexible and more rigid regions disposed along its length which correspond to corners and straight sections, respectively, of for example, a glass run.
