  • Patent number: 6332291
Abstract: This invention relates to radiation-curable coating compositions which contain A) compounds having one or more free-radically polymerisable double bonds which additionally contain at least one further functional group reactive for the purposes of an addition and/or condensation reaction, B) compounds having one or more free-radically polymerisable double bonds, which additionally contain at least one further functional group reactive for the purposes of an addition and/or condensation reaction, wherein the additional reactive functional group is complementary to or reactive towards the additional reactive functional groups of component A), C) optionally at least one monomeric, oligomeric and/or polymeric compound having at least one functional group reactive towards the functional groups from component A) or component B) D) one or more photoinitiators as well as E) optionally solvents, water, pigments and/or extenders as well as conventional lacquer additives, wherein component A) and component B) diffe

  • Patent number: 6333077
Abstract: A process for lacquer coating substrates with a colored and/or effect base lacquer and a clear lacquer topcoat, in which a colored and/or effect base lacquer layer of a base lacquer coating composition is applied onto a substrate and is provided in a wet-on-wet process with a clear lacquer coating. Before being jointly stoved or jointly cured with the base lacquer layer, the uncured clear lacquer layer is exposed to high-energy radiation. In the clear lacquer coating composition, the resin solids content contains 50 to 98 wt. % of a system A) thermally curable by addition and/or condensation reactions, which system contains substantially no free-radically polymerisable double bonds and substantially no groups capable of reacting in another way with free-radically polymerisable double bonds of a system B). The resin solids content further contains 2 to 50 wt.

  • Patent number: 6268409
Abstract: The invention relates to a binder (A) in aqueous dispersion which is obtainable by neutralization of the tertiary amino groups of an amino-epoxy resin a1) with acid and reaction of the resulting product with a polyepoxide a2) to form quaternary ammonium groups and conversion into an aqueous dispersion with water. The invention furthermore relates to a process for the preparation of binders (A) in aqueous dispersion and their use in cathodic electrodeposition lacquers.

  • Patent number: 6258874
Abstract: This invention relates to a binder composition suitable for coating compositions, which binder composition contains one or more carboxy-functional polymers, one or more compounds having an epoxide function in the molecule, one or more polyols having at least two hydroxyl functions in the molecule, which polyols differ from a component A) optionally containing hydroxyl functions, components which crosslink with hydroxyl groups to form ethers and/or a triazine-based crosslinking agent, optionally one or more polyisocyanates, which may optionally be capped, optionally an anhydride component and optionally one or more catalysts for catalysing the reaction of carboxyl and epoxide groups.

  • Patent number: 6149970
Abstract: This invention relates to an aqueous coating medium which contains, as binder vehicles in the form of aqueous polymer dispersions,A) 50 to 90% by weight of one or more thermoplastic copolymers of at least one C2-C4 olefin and at least one vinyl ester of a C2-C11 monocarboxylic acid, wherein the olefin(s) and vinyl ester(s) are present in a ratio by weight of 10:90 to 40:60 and together make up at least 80% by weight of the copolymer,B) 10 to 50% by weight of one or more thermoplastic (meth)acrylic copolymers which are free from comonomers containing nitrile and amide groups, and at least 50% by weight of which consists of (meth)acrylic acid esters of C1-C18 alcohols, andC) 0 to 30% by weight of one or more copolymers which are different from A) and B),wherein the percentages by weight are given with respect to the resin solids in each case and add up to 100% by weight.
