  • Patent number: 8835040
Abstract: Separator for cylindrical cell of the outwardly guided type, wherein a sheet material is wound around a mandrel, and starting from the winding step until the insertion of a separator into the cell, an outward support is used that renders the binding of neighboring turns of the separator winding unnecessary, and the separator sheet has an extended portion, with the extension being at least equal to the radius of the separator cylinder, and with this extended portion being wetted with distilled or de-ionized water until the material softens and the winding and the mandrel are rotated and the bottom part is folded back and heat fused to close the separator cylinder.

  • Patent number: 8047241
Abstract: A method for filling a battery cell with electrolyte, comprising: a) connecting the battery cell and a lower portion of a fill head chamber connected through respective first, second, third and fourth valves to a source of high pressure, the free atmosphere, a source of high vacuum and optionally a source of low vacuum, wherein only one of said valves can be open at any time, while said second valve is open; b) opening said third valve for a predetermined first period to discharge air from the interior of said battery cell through said chamber; c) separating the major upper portion of said chamber from the lower portion thereof by a sliding shut-off plunger and opening said second valve; d) dispensing a prescribed amount of electrolyte into said upper portion of said chamber above said plunger, while keeping said second valve open; e) raising said plunger to let a major portion of said dispensed liquid be sucked into said battery cell under the effect of the vacuum established therein in step b) and allowi

  • Patent number: 4545507
Abstract: A metering pump is disclosed and includes a unitary pumping assembly secured to a base so as to be removable from the base as a unit e.g. for cleaning. The pump is of the plunger type and includes at least one plunger mounted to reciprocate in a pump cylinder, and a rotary valve for controlling flow of liquid into and out of the cylinder under the effect of reciprocation of the plunger. A linear actuator and a rotary actuator are each permanently mounted on the base for actuating respectively the plunger and the rotary valve. The linear actuator can be coupled to the plunger by disengageable coupling means including interfitting but physically unconnected male and female formations. The rotary actuator is similarly disengageably coupled to the valve member by a key and slot coupling. The disengageable coupling means allow the pumping assembly to be removed as a unit from the base by simply releasing a securing screw or the like.
