  • Patent number: 7406623
Abstract: In the case where there coexist general loads requiring backup only for a short duration and a specific load requiring backup for a longer duration, uninterruptible power with higher reliability is supplied to the specific load with the adoption of a simple configuration. A DC backup power supply system comprises an AC/DC converter for normally supplying DC power to loads in while (the general loads and the specific load, included), and a control circuit for supplying DC output backing up the loads in whole for relatively short time only from a battery at the time of a power outage, while supplying DC output backing up the specific load, such as a cache memory and so forth, for relatively long time. Thus, it is possible to implement an uninterruptible power supply system small in size and low in cost, provided with a function for proper use depending on a prevailing situation.

Abstract: One or more random access-type storage devices comprise a volume group and a journal volume. The volume group contains a volume pair configured from a primary volume and a secondary volume. Whenever data is received from a host device, this received data is written in the primary volume, a journal containing the write sequence of the data and the data is produced, and the journal is written in a journal volume. A plurality of journals accumulated in a journal volume are written in a sequential access-type storage device. Based on the write sequence recorded in each of the plurality of journals recorded in the sequential access-type storage device, the data of the journals is restored to the primary volume for storing the data and to a secondary volume from which the volume pair is configured.

  • Patent number: 7245469
Abstract: A reliable uninterruptible DC power supply device. The DC backup power supply device includes an AC/DC converter, a DC/DC converter, voltage step-up/down choppers and a battery connected to a DC path of a main circuit connected with a load via a switch, and a microcomputer. In the device, under control of the microcomputer, the voltage step-up/down choppers are first operated under a condition that the MOS FET was turned OFF for self diagnosis of the backup power supply device. Next, the switch is turned ON to execute the remaining self diagnosis. The DC backup power supply device can execute its self diagnosis with a reduced likelihood of danger of exerting an adverse effect on the main circuit and also can exhibit a reliable uninterruptible power supply function.

  • Patent number: 7157810
Abstract: The present invention reduces the capacity of the AC-DC converter for the peak load and realizes low price and reduction in the volume of the power unit. The apparatus built-in backup power supply has the peak cut function for sharing a part of the load current at the time of peak load from the secondary battery. The two-way DC-DC converter 5 and the secondary battery 4 are installed on the DC output side of the AC-DC converter 3 and a current larger than a predetermined peak cut level is discharged from the secondary battery 4 at the time of peak load. Further, when the load is less than the predetermined cut level, the secondary battery 4 is charged from the AC-DC converter 3 via the two-way DC-DC converter 5. Furthermore, a most suitable peak cut level according to the SOC of the secondary battery and load pattern is automatically set and dynamically changed.

  • Patent number: 7106904
Abstract: A form identification method which can identify forms without errors even if a form is inputted from a scanner in different direction or the form is enlarged/shrunk. A form registration method which enables change/modification of forms when form types are pre-registered. Inputted points as features are extracted from the form, modification of enlargement/shrinkage, rotation, or skew is made to the inputted points. Form types are identified based on minimum distances between the inputted point and pre-registered dictionary points. When registering a similar form type, warning can be displayed on the screen. In a system a dictionary registration station, a form identification station, and a form edit station are connected via a communication network. Each station operates in interlocking manner, identifies inputted forms, and registers them into a dictionary.

  • Patent number: 7049711
Abstract: A boost circuit is connected to a rechargeable battery and a switch is connected between a rectification circuit and a power factor correction converter. In the power failure state, the switch is turned on to activate the boost circuit and energy of the rechargeable battery is supplied to a load by rasing the voltage at two steps in the path from the boost circuit, switch, and to power factor correction converter. Since the voltage of the battery can be lowered, the number of serially connected cells can be made small. The volume of UPS can be reduced and a low cost can be realized. Since the number of serially connected cells is reduced, the reliability against failure of battery cells can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6977448
Abstract: Apparatus built-in backup power supply system has a “peak cut” function for sharing a part of the load current at the time of a peak load using a secondary battery. For this purpose, a two-way DC—DC converter 5 and the secondary battery 4 are installed on the DC output side of the AC-DC converter 3, and that portion of the load current that exceeds a predetermined peak cut level is discharged from the secondary battery 4 during peak loading. When the load is less than the predetermined cut level, the secondary battery 4 is charged from the AC-DC converter 3 via the two-way DC—DC converter 5. A suitable peak cut level is determined according to the state of charge of the secondary battery and load pattern, and is changed dynamically.

  • Patent number: 6683275
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating a phase-change recording medium for depositing particles of phase-change recording material onto a substrate to form a phase-change recording layer thereon. Here, a disk-like substrate is loaded into a vacuum chamber. The vacuum chamber is filled with sputtering gas, and then the substrate is rotate. Sputtering particles struck out of a sputtering target are deposited onto the substrate to form a phase-change recording layer. When the sputtering particles are deposited on the substrate up to a predetermined thickness, a crystallization energy supply mechanism irradiates the sputtering-particle-deposited substrate with a laser beam having energy necessary for initial crystallization. Alternatively, the crystallization energy supply mechanism irradiates a just-formed phase-change recording layer with a laser beam having energy necessary for initial crystallization.

Abstract: For a computer system having a central processing unit, an external storage unit which records data in a count-key-data (CKD) format, and a storage control unit with a cache memory for controlling data transfer between the external storage unit and the central processing unit, a computer system and data search method is provided which can prevent the performance of the central processing unit from being lowered and can eliminate signal transfer between the central processing unit and storage control unit during most of a data search operation period, by disconnecting the storage control unit from the central processing unit. During the data search operation, upon reception of a search command for the first record, a quasi completion report is issued to disconnect the storage control unit from the central processing unit. The storage control unit executes the search operation by using data loaded in the cache memory of the storage control unit. After data is searched, a search completion report is issued.
