Patent number: 7699758Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes a frame and handles mounted on the frame and moveable by a user in opposite directions. The handles are coupled to a transmission so that movement of the handles by a user create rotational movement of a transmission input, movement of the handles in one direction creating rotational movement of the transmission input in one direction and movement of the handles in the opposite direction creating rotational movement of the transmission input in the opposite direction. The transmission couples the transmission input to a resistance means, such as an eddy current resistance device, in a manner to provide a different resistance to rotation of the transmission input depending upon the direction of rotation of the transmission input. Thus, the resistance to rotational movement of the transmission input in one rotational direction is greater than it is in the opposite rotational direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2005Date of Patent: April 20, 2010Assignee: Hoggan Health Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lynn D. Hoggan, James R. Richards, Michael K. Durtschi

Patent number: 6792801Abstract: Apparatus for selectively testing muscle strength and range of motion of a body part of a patient includes a housing having at least one contact area, and preferably two spaced apart contact areas, for contacting and aligning the apparatus with a body part to be tested for range of motion and an inclinometer to measure the angle of the apparatus and produce an angle signal indicative of the measured angle. The difference between the angle measured at one extreme of movement of the body part and at the other extreme of movement provides a measure of the range of motion. A force applicator coupler couples a force applicator to a force transducer to measure muscle strength. The force transducer produces a force signal indicative of the force applied by the force applicator to the force transducer.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2003Date of Patent: September 21, 2004Assignee: Hoggan Health Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lynn D. Hoggan, John Griffin, Earl Van Wagoner, III, Michael K. Durtschi

Patent number: 5538486Abstract: An instrumented therapy cord including a load cell transducer, a resistive stretch cord and a microprocessor control module having internal memory capacity and programming means for assessing, monitoring and controlling rehabilitation treatment programs. Operably attached to a handle member and preferably incorporated within a housing unit, the microprocessor control module interfaces with the load cell transducer. A first end of the resistive therapy stretch cord is operably coupled to the load cell transducer by a permanent or quick-release coupling means. A second end of the resistive therapy cord is removably connected to a second handle or stationary body.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1994Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: Hoggan Health Industries, Inc.Inventors: E. Patent number: 5150169Abstract: Apparatus for measuring relative movement between two points which represents relative movement between two items or between two parts of the same item includes a radiation source such as a light source which generates three orthogonal light beams appearing to originate at a common point, said common point constituting one of the two points, and the light source being secured to one of the items or parts of an item. A radiation sensor capable of detecting in three two-dimensional sensing planes the position of each of the three orthogonal radiation beams, such as three light sensing arrays arranged in three orthogonal planes, each of the three orthogonal sensing planes intersecting at an origin point which constitutes the other of the two points is secured to the other item or part of an item.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1991Date of Patent: September 22, 1992Assignee: Hoggan Health Industries, Inc.Inventor: Earl Van Wagoner

Patent number: 4799671Abstract: Exercising apparatus is constructed with operating mechanism that includes a stationary platform elevated above user-accommodating level sufficiently to support a stack of weights in a position corresponding approximately with the position of the user's head, so weight selection is facilitated and so such mechanism can be attractively housed. A weight carrier includes weight connection members rising from an elevator platform that is adapted to be raised by muscle power of the user along with a user-selected number of weights connected thereto.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1986Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: Hoggan Health Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lynn D.
