  • Patent number: 6590521
Abstract: An object recognition system including a radar, an image sensor and a controller is provided. The radar determines the position of an object, and the image sensor captures an image of the object. The controller sets a processing area within the image captured by the image sensor based on the position of the object determined by the radar and a predetermined size for the object to be recognized. The controller extracts horizontal and vertical edges from the processing area, and preferably judges whether each of the extracted edges belongs to the object based on characteristics of the object to be recognized. The controller then recognizes the outline of the object based on the edges judged to belong to the object. The object can be recognized by determining upper, lower, left and right ends of the object. On the other hand, the controller recognizes lane lines defining the lane in which the vehicle mounting the system of the invention is running.

  • Patent number: 6585938
Abstract: There is provided a gas concentration-detecting device for detecting the concentration of gas in oil, which is capable of detecting the concentration of gas in oil with accuracy, irrespective of the temperature of oil, and even when oil is degraded. The gas concentration-detecting device includes two electrodes for being arranged in the oil such that the electrodes are opposed to each other and spaced from each other by a predetermined distance, and a capacitance amplifier for outputting a signal indicative of a concentration of gas in oil, the signal being dependent on a capacitance between the electrodes. The predetermined distance between the electrodes is set to a value equal to or larger than a predetermined value at which an amount of drift of the signal output from the capacitance amplifier dependent on variation in a temperature of the oil starts to gradually decrease as the distance between the electrodes is increased.

  • Patent number: 6467565
Abstract: A joint is sub-assembled on a front wheel propeller shaft side of a vehicle by integrally fitting one end of the joint to one end of the front wheel propeller shaft and covering the connection portion with a boot. This arrangement provides a shaft drive mechanism capable of easily assembling a propeller shaft with a pinion gear via a joint. The leading end side of the joint is fitted on a small-diameter boss of a pinion gear supported by a front wheel gear case. The joint is spline-connected so that it is integrally rotatably connected to the boss of the pinion gear. A C-shaped clip previously mounted on the small-diameter boss is engaged on the joint side in order to prevent the spline of the joint from slipping off from the spline of the pinion gear.

  • Patent number: 4840152
Abstract: Disclosed is a V-type vertical engine which is particularly advantageous for use as an outboard marine engine. This engine typically comprises a crank shaft extending vertically; a pair of cylinder banks; intake ports which are located adjacent to the internal sides of the cylinder banks; intake tubes which are connected to the intake ports and, at least in part thereof, extend along a central line between the two cylinder banks away from a crank shaft of the engine; a carburetor unit including at least one carburetor having a pair of intake passages which communicate with the intake ports belonging to different ones of the cylinder banks and a single float chamber which is common to both the intake passages; exhaust ports which are located adjacent to the external sides of the cylinder banks; and exhaust passages which, at least in part thereof, extend along a cylinder axial line towards the crank case.
