  • Patent number: 4127279
Abstract: A tool holder includes a shank that has an axial passage therethrough for conducting coolant. The end of the shank remote from the cutting tool has a hollow stop screw which determines the effective length of the tool holder and which contains a check valve assembly, thus enabling the tool holder to be used in machine tools that rely upon the build-up of an air pressure as a consequence of insertion of the tool as one of its control functions.

  • Patent number: 4115858
Abstract: A machine tool controller, for automatically controlling the Z axis operations of a machine tool, along a direction parallel with the axis of a tool-holding spindle, includes a system for executing programs in accordance with data which is manually entered into the system for each of a plurality of individual machining operations. The data, representative of two distances, respectively above and below the surface of the work to be machined, feed speed during machining and spindle rotating speed, may be manually entered through the keyboard of a control panel, or the two distances may be entered directly from a position counter which monitors the Z axis position of the spindle, and successful data entry is verified by indicator lights. All of the data for a single machining operation is stored in a memory unit, associated with the microprocessor system, at a single storage location, with each separate item of data stored in a specified memory location of the storage location.

  • Patent number: 4099597
Abstract: A lubrication device employing a reciprocable plunger, as the actuating member, which is driven by a rotatable cam member through a pivoted rocker arm engaged with the plunger and having roller means engaging the cam, with the axis of the plunger, respective pivotal axes of the cam, arm and roller means, and line contacts between the roller and cam and between plunger and arm being so related that actuating forces are transmitted from the cam to the plunger substantially on the axis of the plunger, substantially eliminating undesirable lateral forces on component parts and enabling the use of simple bearing structures for the cam shaft. Operation is further improved by a novel disposition of valve means in the lubricant supply line.

  • Patent number: 4095916
Abstract: Liquid coolant and lubricant is intermittently pressure fed through a hollow drill stem to the tip of a drill, preferably a spade drill, against the workpiece by compressed air from the conventional machine shop air line which is fed over and released from a column of the liquid coolant and lubricant at selected frequencies and for selected durations without the use of motors, pumps, or other propelling devices. A pair of manually adjusted controls select the frequency of intermittent coolant feed and the length of feed duration within the selected frequency to maintain desired operating temperatures at the drill tip while effectively flushing out chips cut from the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4094218
Abstract: A closed hydraulic system for band saws transmits manually actuated control of the saw blade tension, provides for easy and remote reading of blade tension, instantly stops rotation of the upper saw blade wheel in case of blade breakage, shuts off the motor drive when blade breakage occurs, and prevents restarting of the motor until a new blade is installed and tension is applied thereto. The upper idler blade band wheel is equipped with a spring loaded brake held in a non-braking position by hydraulic fluid which is pressurized from a manually actuated crank which shifts the upper wheel to apply tension to the saw blade band and when the band breaks to release the tension, the fluid pressure drops sufficiently to allow the springs to actuate the brake for stopping the wheel. At the same time, a fluid pressure actuated switch in the electric circuit for the driving motor is opened to prevent restarting of the motor until tension is once again applied to a new saw band.

  • Patent number: 4084353
Abstract: A fixture for holding a spade drill on a reciprocable grinder table during the sharpening thereof comprises a base for resting on the grinder table, a rocker supported on the base and pivotable to various fixed positions for providing a selected dip angle, and means for supporting the spade drill on the upper side of the rocker in a predetermined angular relation with respect to the horizontal table surface, such angular relation providing the rake angle for enabling grinding the top-rake flat of the drill. The base can be tilted to rest on a rear support surface which is disposed in a predetermined angular relation to enable grinding of the clearance portion of the spade drill at a proper angle. Selection of skew angle is also provided as a feature. The fixture can accommodate an entire series of spade drills to be ground to various dimensional specifications.
