Abstract: Compositions comprising a polyamidopolyamine and/or a non-poly-meric amidoamine are disclosed for imparting multiple desired characteristics to a variety of industrial compositions. In certain embodiments, these compositions are prepared by condensing a C4 to C16 poly basic acid, monobasic acid or derivative thereof with a polyamine comprising a primary amino group, and in the presence of an optional organic diluent. Certain specific polyamidopolyamine and a non-polymeric amidoamine formulae and compositions containing same are disclosed, as are methods of use of these compositions.

Abstract: Aqueous media for quenching metal substrates are provided and contain (i) a polyvinylpyrrolidone/polyvinylcaprolactam copolymer and (ii) one or more of a second polymer, which is selected from (a) a substituted oxazoline polymer; (b) a poly(oxyethylene-oxyalkylene)glycol; or (c) a polyvinylpyrrolidone polymer. The quenching bath provides reduced cooling rates through the martensite temperature ranges. Also provided are processes for quenching metal substrates using these quenching media.
