Abstract: An injection molded handlebar for a bicycle is disclosed including a plastic integral unit having a central hub portion, a support body and first and second laterally extending arm portions. A stem member is provided extending through an aperture in the support body and including an insert plate welded to the stem member for rigidly attaching the stem member to the integral unit. Brake lever mounts are provided molded integrally with and extending forwardly from the arm portions. In addition, shift lever mounts are molded into an upper surface of the handlebar adjacent to the brake lever mounts.
Abstract: A sports article attached to a crossbar of a bicycle handlebar such that it can be removed and used as a sports article. The sports article provides impact protection on the crossbar and adds to the attractive appearance of the bicycle.

Abstract: A base for a basketball support pole comprising, in combination, a plurality of walls arranged at an angle to each other and forming a polyhedron shaped body, support structure within the body defining an elongated opening extending into the body at an angle to the vertical and for receiving a support pole, structure for securing the pole in the opening against rotation about the elongated axis of the pole and against withdrawal from the opening, structure within the body defining a ballast receiving enclosure, and ballast within the ballast receiving enclosure.

Abstract: A hand brake actuator for actuating a caliper brake on a bicycle. The actuator is attached to the handlebar by a mounting bracket. A lever pivotally attached to the mounting bracket actuates the caliper of the bicycle brake. A shroud integrally formed with the lever receives the mounting bracket during pivotal movement of the lever.
Abstract: An audio accessory is provided for mounting to the handlebar of a bicycle. The accessory includes a housing for containing an electronic audio system such as a radio and elongated concavely shaped side portions for engaging upwardly extending diverging extensions of the bicycle handlebar. A pair of straps attached to the front and rear of the housing wrap around the extensions of the handlebars to hold the housing firmly in position in wedging contact with the handlebar.

Abstract: A breakaway basketball goal assembly (20) includes a first mounting plate (30) for stationary mounting to the front of the backboard (22) and a second mounting plate (42) pivotally mounted to the first mounting plate and rigidly connected to the rim (24). The rim can pivot up or down in response to respective up and down forces, with the required downward force being greater, to provide differential breakaway. Left and right pivoting are also provided, to afford four way pivoting. Strength-increasing walls 102, 104, 106 are provided for the first mounting plate to prevent bowing away from the backboard and additionally serve the function of providing a protective finger pinch shroud. A universal structure selectively provides a choice between breakaway and non-breakaway applications without changing the manufacturing operation producing the goal assembly, to reduce cost.
Abstract: A water bottle cage assembly having a mounting bracket for releasable attachment to a bicycle frame tube. The cage assembly is shaped to receive a flexible, resilient water bottle in a releasable interference fit and includes an inboard segment having a pair of substantially parallel, longitudinally-extending struts, each strut having an offset portion extending outwardly from the cage, which is received by the mounting bracket in a pair of unitary recesses. The bracket preferably includes a pair of flexible straps positioned opposite to each other and joined by nut and bolt combinations at their ends to clamp the frame tube therebetween. At least one strap member includes the recesses which receive the offset portions such that they are clamped against the frame tube. The offset portions space the cage from the frame tube and provide clearance between the water bottle and the mounting bracket.
Abstract: In a bicycle frame wherein a plurality of frame members are selectively joined together at the ends thereof, each of the joints which support the head tube, the seat and the crank housing is a lug joint consisting of a plurality of organic fiber layers partially wrapping the joined end portions of the frame members, the fibers composing each layer being oriented at different angles from the fibers in the adjacent layers, and all of these sheets being impregnated with resin which hardens to secure the sheets to the frame members. Web portions of these fiber layers also enclose a portion of the space between wrapped portions of the frame members, and each of these spaces is filled with a suspension of microballoons in hardened resin which cooperates with the web portions of the fiber layers to brace the joined frame members against movement toward each other during use of the bicycle.
Abstract: A bicycle sprocket cover is formed as a unitarian molded disk of sufficient diameter to overlie and project radially outwardly beyond the teeth of a bicycle drive sprocket. The cover is attached to the sprocket by bolts, the heads of which are then covered by decorative panels having outwardly projecting tabs that are received in complimentary slots formed in the sprocket cover.
