The merchandiser also includes a canopy that has a first air outlet and a second air outlet, a first passageway connecting the air inlet with the first air outlet to direct a first airflow through the first air outlet at least partially across the opening to define a primary air curtain, and a second passageway in fluid communication with a HVAC system by ducting coupled between the merchandiser and the HVAC system to direct a second airflow defining a secondary air curtain from the HVAC system through the second air outlet at least partially across the opening. The primary and secondary air curtains cooperate with each other to minimize infiltration of ambient air into the product display area.

Abstract: A pan apparatus for a merchandiser including a case having a platform defining an opening. The pan apparatus includes a bottom wall and a plurality of sidewalls cooperating with the bottom wall to define a space for supporting product in the pan. At least two of the sidewalls each includes a frame engagement member adjacent a top of the pan. The pan apparatus also includes a frame positioned adjacent a top of the sidewalls and coupled to the frame engagement members. The frame extends along at least two sidewalls of the pan and is configured to engage the platform adjacent the opening to suspend the pan. The frame defines a plurality of holes spaced along at least a portion of the perimeter such that an airflow from below the pan is directed upward along the sidewalls and discharged through the frame via the holes to condition the product.

Abstract: The invention provides a merchandiser including a case that has a base and side walls extending upward from the base to at least partially define a product display area. The merchandiser also includes a bumper assembly coupled to an exterior surface of the base, the bumper assembly including a plurality of shock absorbers attached to and extending outward from the exterior surface. The shock absorbers are spaced apart from each other along the base. The bumper assembly also includes an elongate bumper coupled to distal ends of the shock absorbers and biased outward from the base by the shock absorbers.

The case includes case structure at least partially exposed to the product display area. The merchandiser also includes a heat guide that is in communication with cold air within the product display area, and a heat source that is coupled to the case structure within the product display area. The heat source is further coupled to the heat guide by a thermal recovery device. The heat guide forms a bridge between the thermal recovery device and the cold air in the product display area such that power is generated based on a temperature difference across the thermal recovery device.

The duct receives spillover air from the medium temperature air curtain and redirects the spillover air away from the low temperature air curtain.

The system includes a low temperature refrigeration unit sized to fit within a case compartment and to operably couple to the case to maintain food product within a low temperature range. The system also includes a medium temperature refrigeration unit sized to fit within the compartment and operably couple to the case to maintain food product within a medium temperature range. The system includes a controller in communication with the door heater and is programmed to activate the door heater only in response to the low temperature modular refrigeration unit positioned within the compartment. One of the low temperature refrigeration unit and the medium temperature refrigeration unit is removably coupled to the case within the compartment, and is replaceable by the other refrigeration unit to change the temperature range of the product display area.

The first air passageway and second air passageway are in fluid communication with the lower flue and with the product display area. The refrigerated merchandiser also includes an evaporator positioned in the first air passageway and a fan assembly positioned in the base in fluid communication with the lower flue to generate an airflow. A fan plenum into which the fan assembly is disposed includes an airflow divider to direct a first portion of the airflow to the first air passageway and to direct a second portion of the airflow to the second air passageway. The proportion of air between the first portion and the second portion is a function of the position and geometry of the airflow divider.

The evaporator, compressor, and condenser are fluidly connected and arranged in series with each other. A liquid line fluidly connects the evaporator to the condenser and a suction line fluidly connects the compressor to the evaporator. The heat exchanger includes a plurality of first refrigerant flow tubes that is in fluid communication with one of the suction line and the liquid line, and a second refrigerant flow tube that is in fluid communication with the other of the suction line and the liquid line. Each of the first refrigerant flow tubes and the second refrigerant flow tube have microchannels, and the second refrigerant flow tube positioned between and cooperates with the first refrigerant flow tubes to heat vapor refrigerant flowing in the suction line.
