Patent number: 6647629Abstract: A handle tool handle has two interlocking first and second hollow molded plastic parts. The first part is formed with a peripheral lip. The second part is formed with transversely disposed peripheral surfaces inwardly disposed of the peripheral lip. Each handle part is formed a first plastic material and with a molded over second softer plastic material which covers the hand grip portion but not the peripheral lip or the peripheral surfaces. A tool blade is disposed between the interlocked handle parts. Rivets and a grommet provide pressed engagement of the handle parts with tight sealing of the peripheral lip. The hollow handle parts have respective facingly opposed structural ribs having respective spacedly disposed free ends to maximize the pressing engagement and insure sealing the peripheral lip.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2002Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: Hyde Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventor: Rick Farland

Patent number: 6557262Abstract: A cutting apparatus having a pivotable blade holder includes a blade housing with an internal blade cavity with a blade opening to the outside of the housing. A blade holder adapted for removably retaining a cutting blade having a cutting edge is pivotally mounted within the housing for pivotal movement about a lateral pivot axis between a fully retracted position and a cutting position. The fully retracted position is such that the cutting edge of a cutting blade retained by the blade holder does not protrude through the blade opening to the outside of the blade housing. A cutting position is one in which the cutting edge of the cutting blade extends through the blade opening to the outside of the housing. A blade actuator accessible to a user from the exterior of the housing, when depressed, urges the blade holder into a cutting position while a biasing member normally biases the blade holder toward its fully retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Hyde Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard M. Patent number: 6286215Abstract: A retractable blade scraper includes an elongated handle having an upper surface, a lower surface, a left side, a right side, an open forward end and a rear end. Included in the handle is an integral blade slide housing that begins at the open forward end and extends longitudinally rearwardly toward the rear end of the handle. Slidably received and retained in the housing is a blade slide with a blade platform for removably retaining a scraping blade such that its scraping edge is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle. The blade slide is longitudinally reciprocable within the housing between a forwardmost blade-changing position in which the blade platform extends out of the housing, beyond the open forward end, by an amount sufficient to permit the removal and replacement of scraping blades therefrom and thereon and a rearwardmost blade-storage position in which the scraping edge of a scraping blade in place on the blade platform is housed within the housing for safety.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Hyde Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Mark T. Patent number: 4139939Abstract: An utility knife comprising a two part housing, a slidable blade therein, means restricting the blade to a relatively small projection from the housing, spring means normally retracting the blade to fully housed condition within the housing, an exterior thumb piece to slide the blade, frangible means on the thumb piece acting as a stop which when removed allows the blade to project to a greater degree, and means for holding a spare blade in the casing.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1977Date of Patent: February 20, 1979Assignee: Hyde Manufacturing CompanyInventor: George C.
