Patent number: 10084495Abstract: A method for frequency- and time-selective interference suppression for a communication system based on OFDM, and a receiver therefor. To achieve a much lower bit error rate at the output of the receiver or to permit greater interference or a lower signal-to-noise ratio (in a prior art L-DACS1 receiver, at least 45 nautical miles) for the same transmission power, the invention provides: a filter bank pulse blanking method FBPB in which the sampled received signal is applied to a blanking unit for frequency-selective pulse blanking, which blanking unit consists of an analysis filter bank having M sub-bands; a module for frequency-selective pulse blanking of the sub-band signals; and a synthesis filter bank, which reassembles the signal. The analysis filter bank, which breaks down the received signal into multiple sub-bands on a frequency-selective basis, is used before OFDM windowing, such that the sub-band breakdown applies pulse blanking on a sub-band-selective basis.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2016Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: IAD GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INFORMATIK, AUTOMATISIERUNG UND DATENVERARBEITUNG MBHInventors: Hermann Hampel, Ulrich Berold, Martin Hirschbeck

Patent number: 9344108Abstract: A delta-sigma modulator for a switching amplifier, which achieves a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the multi-MHz range and keeps the noise-transfer function over the useful frequency range as low and as flat as possible. A series connection of a parallel-serial converter and a downstream swap element for the serial output signal ya2 of the parallel serial converter is connected to the multi-bit output of the delta-sigma-modulator. The swap element swaps, based on the last bit value 0 or 1 of a preceding word in the resulting output signal ya3, the sequence of the binary zeroes and ones of the current word, where present, and then an input signal is fed to the delta-sigma-modulator. The signal is capable of having a frequency range above 25 kHz, and is prepared with a low oversampling ratio and a high SNR. And, 1-0 or 0-1 transitions are largely eliminated at the word boundaries.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2012Date of Patent: May 17, 2016Assignee: IAD GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INFORMATIK, AUTOMATISIERUNG UND DATENVERARBEITUNG MBHInventors: Hermann Hampel, Ulrich Berold, Abdul Rahman Hanoun, Johannes Hampel, Oliver Eckhof, Manfred Deinzer, Andreas Bänisch

Patent number: 8345749Abstract: A method and a system for spatial scalable region of interest transcoding of JPEG2000 coded video frames for video surveillance systems. Based on a user defined ROI, the method transcodes HD frames into images in moderate resolution with a ROI in HD resolution. The transcoder extracts all packets belonging to the ROI or the lower resolution levels of the background from the JPEG2000 bitstream. Non-ROI packets of higher resolution levels are replaced by empty packets. The ROI is tracked using a mean shift algorithm to guarantee that always the correct image details are extracted in high resolution. Since the transcoding is performed by extracting and replacing packets of the codestream, an expensive re-encoding of the code-stream is not required. Thus, the transcoding technique is of low complexity and shows a short processing time. Combining the transcoding technique with mean shift tracking leads to a powerful video transcoding technique.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2009Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: iAd Gesellschaft für Informatik, Automatisierung und Datenverarbeitung mbHInventors: Katharina Quast, Andre Kaup, Hermann Hampel

Patent number: 7869707Abstract: Differently designed measuring systems exist of which most contain a central signal processing unit and a number of electrical measuring components, and in which the measured values furnished by the measuring components are optically transmitted over optical wave guides. The aim of the invention is to provide a measuring system of this type, which has low power consumption and enables a reliable optical data transmission. To this end, an optical loop is provided between a central measuring unit (MG) and a sensor head (SK). Microprocessors (MP1, MP2), which are situated inside the central measuring unit (MG) and inside the sensor head (SK), carry out transmitting, measuring and monitoring tasks as a distributed controller with bi-directional data communication. A frame synchronization signal serves both for supplying power as well as for deriving a clock signal for block-oriented data transmission.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2004Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: IAD Gesellschaft fuer Informatik, Automatisierung und Datenverarbeitung mbHInventor: Hermann Hampel

Patent number: 7675386Abstract: The various designs of capacitive or inductive coupling/decoupling fitted on cables in a medium voltage network are known, the inductive coupling circuits constantly inducing current in the sheath of the electric cable. The invention aims at obtaining ranges of capacitive coupling/decoupling for an inductive coupling circuit. Therefore, an inductive coupling unit comprising a ring enclosing the sheathed electric cable and a coil, coupled to said ring by induction and connected to a transmission and reception device, is designed such that, upon transmission the current of the message signal is directly induced in the conductor and, upon receptions only the conductor current is evaluated. In a first embodiment, a by-pass, located downstream of the inductive coupling unit and upstream of the defined surface, is connected to the sheath and to ground or to the compensation potential.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2004Date of Patent: March 9, 2010Assignee: IAD Gesellschaft für Informatik, Automatisierung und Datenverarbeitung mbHInventor: Gerd Bumiller
