Abstract: A compact machine for applying and contour milling or cutting of edge strips or laminates at the narrow sides of plate-shaped workpieces, in a forward cycle and a reverse cycle, with a single operator location and in continuously travelling manner, with a single conveying device at which the plates are transversely arranged such that the respective leading narrow side is arranged perpendicularly with respect to a longitudinal, main axis of travel, and the respective plate overhangingly extends from the conveying device for access, as well as being secured by clamps. The apparatus also includes an edge-gluing device and a shaping-milling device, both of which, with respect to the longitudinal axis, are sequentially arranged laterally at the conveying device.

Abstract: An apparatus that machines a workpiece with any of a plurality of tools of different lengths and comprises a generally stationary frame adapted to support the workpiece at a working station, a vertically displaceable drive unit on the frame, a spindle fixed to the drive unit and centered on and rotatable by the drive unit about an upright spindle axis passing through the working station, and a chuck fixed on the spindle and adapted to hold a one of the tools for machining the workpiece held on the frame. A tool-changing apparatus comprises a holder for a plurality of the tools fixed to and vertically displaceable jointly with the drive unit and displaceable to move the tools through a transfer station spaced above the chuck by a predetermined distance and a pair of vertically independently displaceable like grippers fixed together for joint pivoting about a gripper axis between the transfer station and the chuck.

Abstract: A tape is adhered to a corner-defining nonstraight edge of a generally planar workpiece with an apparatus comprising a stationary workpiece station, clamps for retaining the workpiece in the station, a roller engageable with the workpiece and rotatable on the carriage about an axis generally perpendicular to the workpiece plane, and a supply of the tape and an adhesive on the carriage. The roller and workpiece are relatively displaced to roll the roller around the workpiece edge and over the corner thereof while pressing the tape with the roller against the workpiece edge and corner. The tape feed is automatically monitored to determine which portion of the tape will be pressed over the edge corner and a notch is cut in the tape at the portion to be pressed to the corner. Then this notched portion of the tape is pressed over the corner without overlapping the tape.
