    Abstract: A method to synthesize a silver nanohybrid material. The method includes mixing a nitrate solution with a citrate solution to form silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The method further includes esterifying a first mixture including octadecanoic acid, octadec-9-enoic acid, and octadeca-9,12-dienoic acid with caffeic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst and a solvent to form an unsaturated carboxylic acid mixture including first, second, and third acrylic acid derivatives. The method includes reacting the unsaturated carboxylic acid mixture with ethylene glycol to form a second mixture including first, second, and third ester derivatives. The method further includes mixing the AgNPs with the second mixture to form a third mixture. The method includes evaporating water from the third mixture to form the silver nanohybrid material. The silver nanohybrid material includes a AgNP core covered with the first, second, and third ester derivatives bonded to the AgNP core.

A photographic image is taken of each vehicle which is committing a driving violation and the image and a violation report is transmitted to a transit authority. The system may be a static system mounted in the median of a roadway or may be a dynamic system mounted in a monitoring vehicle. The driving violations may be one of speeding, tailgating, street racing, improper passing, and lane blocking.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a thermomechanical actuator and a cleaning system implementing the thermomechanical actuator. The thermomechanical actuator includes a solar heat collector (SHC) housing shape memory alloy springs connected between a piston movably disposed therein and one end of the SHC. A cable extending from the piston through an opposite end of the SHC is connected to a bias load that develops returning force on the springs. In presence of solar radiation, the springs contract and cause linear movement of the piston in a direction of contraction and, in absence of the solar radiation, the springs expand and cause linear movement of the piston in direction of expansion. Useful power and work is extracted in form of the cleaning system from such linear movement of the piston.

    Abstract: One aspect of the invention is a method for amplifying alpha globin genes HBA1, HBA2 and HBA12 in a single PCR tube to determine an HBA genotype of a subject. This method employs five primers selected to accurate and sensitively identify the HBA1, HBA2, and HBA12, a gene found at a higher frequency in citizens of Saudi Arabia, by accurately annealing to nucleic acids in a biological sample and simultaneously amplifying sequences encoding the alpha globin genes. This invention includes a procedure and required reagents for the amplification of alpha globin genes in a single PCR tube.

    Abstract: A method of making a silver-silicalite coating on a surface of a stainless-steel substrate is provided. The method includes mixing metakaolin with an aqueous solution of NaOH to form a first mixture. The method further includes mixing silica gel and silver nitrate with the first mixture to form a second mixture. Furthermore, the method includes mixing Zeolites Socony Mobil-5 (ZSM-5) with the second mixture to form a third mixture. The method further includes hydrothermally treating the stainless-steel substrate with the third mixture to form the silver-silicalite coating on the surface of the stainless-steel substrate. The hydrothermal treatment is carried out in the absence of an organic template. The stainless-steel substrate coated with the silver-silicalite coating, prepared by the method of the present disclosure, has lower corrosion in comparison to the same stainless-steel substrate without the silver-silicalite coating.

    Abstract: A superhydrophobic asphalt and a method of its preparation. The superhydrophobic asphalt contains an asphalt layer containing a polymer modified asphalt, preferably a radial SBS modified asphalt, and a polypropylene layer. The polypropylene layer comprises granules of polypropylene thermally fused to the asphalt layer. The superhydrophobic asphalt has a water contact angle of 145 to 170°, above the classification threshold for superhydrophobicity. The method of preparing the superhydrophobic asphalt involves distributing polypropylene granules over the surface of a polymer modified asphalt and curing below the melting temperature of the polypropylene. The asphalt may find use in waterproofing applications such as roofing.
