  • Patent number: 4116596
Abstract: A contractible segmented rigid core of a tire-curing mold is disclosed comprising a plurality of sectors, and means which permit a reduction of the transversal dimensions of the sectors to facilitate removal thereof from the cured tire, said means comprising forming each of the sectors in three parts transversely of the mold, one a central part provided with means for producing a movement under the action of resistant elastic or resilient biasing means along the symmetrical plane of the sector, and two lateral parts being adapted to oscillate, in contrast with the elastic or resilient biasing means, with respect to an axis in the symmetrical plane of the sector and thereby having reduced transversal dimensions. Means are included for preventing any displacement of the sectors when in their expanded position relative to the parts which comprise them, no matter what stresses may be applied to them during the tire curing operation.

  • Patent number: 4114671
Abstract: A pneumatic tire for vehicles has a tread band provided with grooves which extend circumferentially about the tire. The grooves are formed by a series of substantially rectilinear sections which are disposed at a predetermined angle with the equatorial plane of the tire and intersect to impart a zig-zag arrangement to the grooves about the tire. The intersections between said groove sections are situated in planes parallel to the equatorial plane of the tire, and each tread surface portion between one of the parallel planes and a pair of adjacent sections of a groove is shaped so the distance at its points from the tire axis gradually decreases from the parallel plane toward the region in which the sections of the pair of adjacent sections intersect.

  • Patent number: 4115510
Abstract: An elastomeric composition is shaped into a conveyor belt and cured in three steps. In the first step the uncured composition is heated to the curing temperature of the elastomer and pressed at a pressure which is at least equal to the vapor pressure of volatile constituents in the composition to avoid bubbles but less than 6 kg/cm.sup.2 until the composition becomes plastic. At this point, the pressure is increased to about 6 to 10 kg/cm.sup.2 to shape the composition into the configuration of a conveyor belt while maintaining the temperature of the composition at the curing temperature of the elastomer. In a third step, the pressure is reduced to a pressure of not less than the vapor pressure of volatile constituents of the composition and less than 6 kg/cm.sup.2 while maintaining the temperature of the composition at the curing temperature of the elastomer until the elastomer is cured.

  • Patent number: 4085787
Abstract: A pneumatic tire for a vehicle wheel using a flanged rim has a bead structure which provides for a gradual decrease in rigidity between the area of the bead and the sidewall of the tire. The bead has an annular wire, at least one ply of the carcass wound about the wire and extending axially therefrom into the sidewall of the tire and a rubber filler filling the space between the turned-up portion of the ply and that portion on the opposite side of the annular wire. An annular fabric member is disposed over the turned-up portion of the carcass ply and extends beyond the end of the carcass ply into the sidewall of the tire. The rigidities of the metallic fabric and of the filler are balanced against each other so that the rigidity in the bead area of the tire gradually decreases from the bead into the sidewall of the tire. The filler is rubber having a Shore A hardness between 70.degree. and 80.degree. or 100% modulus between 65 and 85 kg/cm.sup.2.
