    Abstract: A converter system and inverter system are disclosed with individual real and reactive power control for each phase of a poly-phase system. The converter system includes a controller, bidirectional single-phase inverters with AC sides coupled to an AC line filter and DC sides connected in parallel to a link capacitor coupled to DC/DC converters. Each inverter handles a separate AC phase. The controller controls the inverters and DC/DC converters so the current amplitude of each AC phase is independent, and the phase difference of each AC phase is independent. The inverters can be galvanically isolated between the DC and AC sides. The inverters can be non-isolated inverters having line and neutral connectors coupled to an isolated transformer winding, and the output windings of the transformer can be wired in a Wye configuration. The inverters can have local controllers.

The system includes a load connection, source connections for each energy source, a control unit and at least one energy management module having an inductor and four switches. The first source is in parallel with the load. The first switch couples the first source positive terminal to the first inductor end, second switch couples the first source negative terminal to the first inductor end, third switch couples the second source positive terminal to the second inductor end, and fourth switch couples the second source negative terminal to the second inductor end. The control unit controls the four switches of each module to transfer energy between the energy sources through the module inductor. The system can have more than two sources. Modes including one or two switch, synchronous or asynchronous, and buck or boost can be used.

    Abstract: An energy transfer circuit for connecting a load to multiple energy sources that can have different voltages. The energy transfer circuit connects the load and at least two energy sources, and has a control unit. The energy transfer circuit can transfer energy from at least one energy source to the load in response to the load's power demand; transfer energy from the load to at least one energy source in response to the load's charging current, and transfer energy between the energy sources. The energy transfer circuit also includes a first capacitor in parallel with the primary source and the load; a second capacitor in parallel with the secondary source, an inductor, a first switch between the inductor and the first capacitor, a second switch between the inductor and the second capacitor. The control unit opens and closes the first and second switches in response to the load and sources.
