  • Patent number: 7186112
Abstract: An injection mold has first, second and third mold parts. The first mold part defines a void having a front end, a rear end and a central axis. The second mold part includes a plug portion and a protuberant portion. The third mold part has a molding position frontwardly adjacent the first mold part and is frontwardly movable relative to the first mold part to a respective release position. The three mold parts have a molding configuration corresponding to molding positions of the second mold part and the third mold part. The mold parts define a mold cavity for an article having a main body, tubular spout, and annular rim portions. The first, second and third mold parts also have a release configuration corresponding to the release positions of the second and third mold parts, permitting the removal of a molded article from the mold.

  • Publication number: 20070003661
Abstract: A series of injection molding nozzle tips having a novel inner insert. The novel inner insert in accordance with the embodiments of the present invention includes a finned profile having flow channels between the finned sections. The finned profile and its associated flow channels cause the flow of molten plastic in the nozzle to go through a breakup into the flow channels before it is merged at the nozzle flow exit. This breaking up of the molten plastic flow and its merging insures a better mixing of the molten plastic and also reduces stresses within the molded part.

  • Patent number: 7063230
Abstract: A container (22) includes a container body (26) having an open end (34) bounded by a thickened rim (32) having a linear part (36) defining a pintle; a lid body (40) overlying the rim (32) in a closed position and having a channel (46) which includes a linear part (42) defining a socket (66) and having a concave wall (67) extending in close-fitting relation through greater than 180 degrees of the circumferential extent of the pintle around an axis defined thereby to hingably couple the lid body (40) to the container body (26). A container flange (28) extends outwardly around the container body (26) in spaced relation to the rim (32). A skirt (38) is detachable from the lid body (40), and extends therefrom in surrounding relation to the container flange (28) and has a lid flange (56) which extends around and grips the underside of the container flange (28) such that, upon detachment of the skirt (38), the lid body (40) is pivotally movable about the axis to an open position apart from the open end (34).

  • Publication number: 20060113407
Abstract: A series of injection molding nozzles, one series having a two-piece nozzle (for use with a conventional nozzle housing), another series having a three-piece nozzle (for use with a conventional nozzle housing), and yet another series having a two-piece nozzle (for use with modified nozzle housing). The two-piece nozzles include either a nozzle insert with a sealing surrounding piece portions (when used with a conventional nozzle housing), or an inner insert with an outer insert portions (when used with modified nozzle housings). The three-piece nozzles include an inner insert, an outer insert and a sealing surrounding piece portions. The modified nozzle housings include a press-fit frontal insert. The nozzles form multiple seals with the nozzle housing and reduce heat loss by unique geometric and material combinations.

  • Patent number: 6971868
Abstract: A nozzle (10) and gate (18) for a plastic injection mold (12) wherein the gate (18) has a primary sealing surface (50) located adjacent to the vestige (22) and a secondary sealing surface (54) located behind or inwardly of the primary sealing surface (50). The nozzle (10) has an insert retainer (42) threadably mounted therein to hold a tip or torpedo type insert (64). The insert retainer (42) has an outer annular primary seal (46) which engages the gate primary sealing surface (50), and an intermediate annular secondary seal (56) which engages the gate secondary sealing surface (54). The primary seal (46) prevents hot plastic from passing behind the nozzle and the secondary seal (56) ensures that even if some plastic gets behind the primary seal, it will not pass behind secondary seal (56) and contact heating coil (33). The main body portion may be shaped to form a third seal (80) for engagement with the secondary sealing surface (54) behind the position of the secondary seal (56).

  • Publication number: 20050233028
Abstract: A valve gate system for an injection molding machine, having a valve gate unit configured to be in contact with a manifold of an injection molding machine for delivering a molten plastic flow from a hot runner system to an injection chamber. The valve gate unit has a valve pin for controlling the flow of the molten plastic from a hot runner system to an injection chamber and an activating unit coupled with the valve gate unit. The activating unit is configured to be mounted external to a mold unit that houses the injection chamber. In addition, the activating unit has an element that extends through the mold unit to engage the valve pin, so as to control the molten plastic flow from a runner system to an injection chamber.

  • Patent number: 6779999
Abstract: An elongate threaded rod member comprises a central portion, and two oppositely extending outer portions. The central portion is attached to the periphery of the first plate, is rotatable with respect to the first plate and is prevented from axial movement relative thereto. Each outer portion includes a threaded portion with each having the same threading pitch and density but being in opposite orientation. A threaded connector is secured to the periphery of each second plate with each threaded portion in screw-threaded relation. The threaded portions rotate within each bore an equal an opposite amount, equalizing the distances of each second mold plate from the first mold plate as the apparatus is moved between open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 6779676
Abstract: A plastic lid is disclosed for a container having double locking flanges around its upper peripheral edge for locking engagement with the lid. The lid has central portion and peripheral annular skirt. The skirt has a peripheral groove dividing the skirt into an upper portion and a lower tear-off strip portion. The upper portion has intermittent locking flange segments for engaging the container locking flanges. The tear-off strip portion has a second locking flange for engaging the other of the container locking flanges. Thin membrane windows are formed in the skirt upper portion on either side of the intermittent locking flange segments and bordering on the annular groove, so that the membrane windows form weakened notches upon removal of the tear-off strip. Recessed portions on the outer surface of the skirt upper portion mark the location of the locking flange segments.
