    Abstract: A gate opening system which includes a barrier and a barrier mounting adapted to mount the barrier in an open or closed condition, a retention device to secure the barrier in an open or closed condition, a drive element, and an energy transmission system, whereby energy is transferred from the weight of a vehicle and is in turn transmitted through the transmission system to rotate the drive element, causing the barrier mounting to be lifted, the disengagement of the retention device, and the barrier thereby opened or closed.
