Abstract: The invention provides compositions and methods for treatment of acetaminophen intoxication using an inhibitor of xanthine oxidase that does not induce superoxide radical formation when introduced into a subject. An example of a xanthine oxidase inhibitor that can be used according to the invention is AHPP.
