Abstract: Integral formation of an elastic layer at the contact surface of a molding to a car body assures a reliable fitting of a molding to a car body avoiding the possibility of said molding becoming detached even though the fitting part of the car body is irregular in dimension and profile and prevents generation of noise from the fitted molding or damage of car body due to the fitting of a molding.

Abstract: A molding for an automobile characterized in that a stainless foil layer is integrated with the surface side of a molding base or substrate of synthetic resin and an oil-proof protective layer is integrated with the backside of said base, i.e., the side which is attached to the car body, whereby a solvent used to remove a wax coating on a car body can be prevented from contacting said base or substrate, to avoid cracking of said base as well as a crimping of said stainless foil layer.

Abstract: A trim molding strip for a vehicle is provided. The molding strip comprises a synthetic resin body member having a central portion and first and second end portions at the ends of the center portion. A metal foil is bonded to the body member and the metal foil covers the central portion of the body member and at least a part of the first and second end portions. A soft plastic protective layer is bonded to the metal foil only on the portion of the metal foil which covers the first and second end portions of the body member. The protective layer covers at least a portions of the metal foil which cover the part of the first and second end portions of the body, and the protective layer is adapted for forming a protective layer between the metal foil and the surface of the vehicle at the first and second end portions of the body member.

In accordance with the invention areas of reduced thickness are formed in the moldings to be joined such that a substantially level joint can be formed without using a separate joining member.

Abstract: A window molding for a vehicle is provided which comprises a synthetic resin body member which has a center portion, a first end portion at one end of the center portion and a second end portion at the other end of the center portion. A metal foil is bonded to the body member and covers the center portion of the body member and at least a part of the first and second end portions. A soft plastic protective layer is bonded to the metal foil only on the portion of the metal foil which covers the first and second end portions of the body member. The protective layer covers at least a portion of the metal foil which covers part of the first and second end portions of the body member. The protective layer is adapted for forming a protective layer between the metal foil and the body of the vehicle at the first end portion of the body member and between the metal foil and the window of the vehicle at the second end portion of the body member.
