  • Patent number: 8991271
Abstract: A portable nanoparticle sampler for collecting respirable particulate matters and nanoparticles is composed of a tangential flow cyclone, a multi-microorifice impactor and a filter cassette. The tangential flow cyclone can remove the microparticles with cutoff aerodynamic diameter (dpa) larger than 4 ?m and guide the airflow to the multi-microorifice impactor located below the cyclone. The multi-microorifice impactor includes a multi-orifice nozzle and a rotary impaction plate for enabling the microparticles with dpa from 100 nm to 4 ?m to be uniformly collected on a silicone-oil-coated impaction substrate. The remnant microparticles with dpa smaller than 100 nm are collected by the filter cassette. Therefore, compared with the prior art, the portable nanoparticle sampler is characterized by low pressure loss and accurate microparticle sizing to meet the requirement of nanoparticle sampling at workplaces.

  • Publication number: 20100267321
Abstract: A biological safety cabinet (BSC) has an air curtain to isolate air inside and outside the BSC. A most preferable slight concave curtain of air can be obtained. With the curtain, neither contamination in the BSC leaks out nor outside contamination enters the BSC. Furthermore, no circulation is formed in the BSC by blowing the air curtain. Thus, the operator using the BSC and the product in the BSC are both well protected.

  • Publication number: 20090272202
Abstract: A personal nanoparticle sampler is disclosed to include a pre-classifier, a nozzle, a particle-sizing filter pack and a final filter pack. The particle-sizing filter pack and the final filter pack respectively accommodate a particle-sizing filter and a final filter to collect nanoparticles smaller than a diameter. The pre-classifier removes large particles to avoid clogging of the particle-sizing filter pack. The nozzle raises the airflow velocity to reduce the cut-off diameter of the particle-sizing filter without increasing the total flowrate, allowing the personal nanoparticle sampler to be used with a personal sampling pump.

  • Patent number: 7582146
Abstract: A uniform aerosol deposit sampling device includes a first housing and a second housing. The first housing has an air inlet and a first chamber. The second housing has an air outlet, an second chamber, a filter holder and a flow guiding portion. The filter holder is provided for securing an air-penetratable supporting pad and a filter media. The flow guiding portion is a substantially conical and gradually narrowing. The flow guiding portion has a semi-conical angle ranged from 15 to 85 degrees. So, the flow guiding portion makes the entire air flow smooth and evenly distributed. The aerosols will be evenly distributed and uniformly deposited on the filter media. And, it is easy to evaluate the amount and composition of the aerosols.

  • Patent number: 7458284
Abstract: A three-stage dust sampler makes use of a porous foam as the impactor substrates. The sampler includes an annular inlet which conforms to ISO/CEN/ACGIH inhalable sampling criteria, two impactor stages to classify thoracic and respirable particles and a final filter to collect respirable particles after the impactors. For 100 ppi polymer foam substrates, and a flow rate of 3.2 lpm, the collection efficiency curves of the thoracic and respirable dust matches ISO/CEN/ACGIH criteria when the jet-to-plate distance is 1.0. The cut-off aerodynamic diameter is 9.6 and 4.0 ?m for the first and second impactor stages, respectively, and ?{square root over (stk50)} is 0.39 for both stages. The collection efficiencies for solid particles is equal to that for liquid particles, indicating that there is no solid particle bouncing from the foam substrates.

Abstract: An automatic mass spectrometry analytical system was developed for the quantitative detection of organic toxicant exposure in the human body. A cartridge (such as C18 cartridge) is integrated into the automatic mass spectrometry analytical system. The sample undergoes sample pretreatment by the cartridge before entering the mass spectrometry for analysis. This increases the accuracy and sensitivity of analysis, while also avoiding tedious manual sample pretreatment procedures. The whole analytical process is fully automatic and therefore useful for high throughput sample analysis.
