  • Patent number: 6986911
Abstract: A filter aid for use in connection with the filtration of liquids is provided. In particular, a filter useful in connection with the filtration of beer is provided. In addition, a method of filtering liquids is provided. According to the method, a filter aid comprising angular, isotropic particles is introduced to a liquid before the liquid is passed through a filter. In particular, a method for filtering beer comprising the introduction of angular, isotropic particles as a filter aid to a stream of unfiltered beer such that a filtration cake comprising filter aid and solids filtered from the beer is formed.

  • Patent number: 6699516
Abstract: Brewing method in which a suspension of cereals having undergone traditional mashing is boiled in the same kettle as that in which mashing is carrier out, with no hops present. Filtration in the method of the invention is carried out using a thin filter bed, i.e. a filter bed with a thickness between 20 mm and 60 mm, preferably on the order of 40 mm. The method is preferably carried out in an installation that includes a mash tub and at least one and preferably two or three kettles in which mashing and boiling takes place, the kettles being followed by a filter and preferably by a buffer tank and then by a cooler.

  • Patent number: 6341500
Abstract: A beverage line (1) and a water line (2) exit from a Python cooling system (3) and enter a manifold (4). The beverage line (1) runs directly through the H-shaped manifold (4) to a tap (5). The water line (2) enters the manifold (4) and water flows through and exits through pipe (6) which surrounds the beverage pipe (1). Adjacent the tap (5), the water flows out of the coaxial pipe (6) and down return pipe (7) which connects into the manifold (4) at connection point (8). The water flows out of the manifold (4) through pipe (9). A bypass pipe (10) is provided in the manifold (4). This allows narrower gauge pipes to be used in the cooling loop without throttling the is flow of water through the Python. A valve (11) is provided in the bypass pipe (10) allowing the flow through the bypass pipe (10) to be reduced or shut off, so that all the flow through inlet pipe (2) is directed through the cooling loop, to remove airlocks.

  • Patent number: 6117459
Abstract: The invention relates to new regenerable filtration adjuvants which are usable for the filtration of liquids, particularly beer at the end of the secondary fermentation storage, characterized in that they comprise synthetic or natural incompressible polymer grains or natural incompressible grains grains having a sphericity coefficient varying between approximately 0.6 and 0.9. The invention also relates to a method for regenerating a filtration adjuvant.

  • Patent number: 5658468
Abstract: An elastic membrane filter, in particular for filtration of mash, has a lower feed pipe and a second or upper feed pipe passing through the filter elements at a location opposite the lower feed pipe, the upper feed pipe being connected of the lower feed pipe so that it is fed with liquid to be filtered from the downstream end of the lower feed pipe and flowing in the opposite direction to the liquid in the lower feed pipe, a pipe connecting the lower and the upper feed pipes.
