Patent number: 6600772Abstract: Combined closed loop/open loop power control controls transmission power levels in a spread spectrum time division duplex communication station. The first station transmits power commands based on in part a reception quality of the received communications. The first station transmits a first communication having transmission power commands based on in part a reception quality of the received communications. The first station transmits a first communication having a transmission power level in a first time slot. The second station received the first communication and the power commands. A power level of the first communication as received is measured. A path loss estimate is determined based on in part the measured received first communication power level and the first communication transmission power level. The second station transmits a first communication to the first station in a first time slot.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2000Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Assignee: InterDigital Communications CorporationInventors: Ariela Zeira, Fiath M. Patent number: 6552996Abstract: A code indexing method for orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF) codes introduces a single number mapped to the each code. The new code number itself not only provides the code signature, but it is also used for the OVSF code generation. In addition, it provides easy and fast generation of the available code list without the help of look-up table. This capability improves the dynamic code assignment.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2001Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: InterDigital Communications CorporationInventors: Younglok Kim, Jung-Lin Pan

Patent number: 6526383Abstract: Two related voiceband compression techniques are employed in order to enable an RF telecommunications system to accommodate data signals of high speed voiceband modems and FAX machines. A High Speed Codec enables the telecommunications system to pass voiceband modem and FAX transmissions at up to 9.6 kb/s. An Ultra-High Speed Codec supports voiceband modem and FAX transmissions up to 14.4 kb/s. The High Speed Codec operates using three 16-phase RF slots or four 8-phase RF slots, and the Ultra-High Speed Codec operates using four 16-phase RF slots. Because these codecs transmit information over several RF slots which can be contiguous, the slots within RF communication channels are dynamically allocated. The Dynamic Timeslot/Bandwidth Allocation feature detects and monitors the data transmission and forms a data channel from the necessary number of slots.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2000Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: InterDigital Communications CorporationInventor: Scott David Kurtz

Patent number: 6504848Abstract: A method for multiplexed scheduling of information blocks from multiple sources on a single communication channel divided into multiple address positions. The information block from each source has a repetition period and is divided into a number of segments. The method includes determining the total number of positions on the channel to be scheduled; mapping positions in a non-sequential order corresponding to nodes in a binary tree, whereby each layer of the binary tree corresponds to a repetition period; ordering the blocks by repetition period, starting with the smallest repetition period; assigning information segments of each block to unassigned positions, and marking as assigned all child nodes of the assigned position node in the layer corresponding to the repetition period.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2001Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: InterDigital Communications CorporationInventor: Yi-Ju Chao

Patent number: 5553062Abstract: A spread-spectrum code division multiple access interference canceler system and method for reducing interference in a spread-spectrum CDMA receiver having N chip-code channels, with each of the N channels identified by a distinct chip-code signal. The interference canceler system comprises a plurality of interference cancelers, each having chip-code generators, delay devices, correlators, spread-spectrum-processing circuits, and subtracting means. Using a plurality of chip-code signals, the correlators despread the spread-spectrum CDMA signal as a plurality of despread signals, respectively. The spread-spectrum-processing circuits use a timed version of the plurality of chip-code signals, generated by the delay devices, for spread-spectrum processing the plurality of despread signals, respectively, with a timed chip-code-signal corresponding to a respective despread signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1994Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: InterDigital Communication CorporationInventors: Donald L.
