  • Patent number: 11695981
Abstract: An electronic program guide, EPG, comprises a first portion and a second portion. The first portion comprises a list of channels and, for each channel in the list, a list of scheduled audiovisual content. The second portion comprises a selection area or section and a first graphical element representing a time line. The selection section may be used to select scheduled audiovisual content according to a selection criterion. Second graphical elements that represent scheduled audio visual content resulting from the selection are then placed on the first graphical element. The relative position of the second graphical elements on the first graphical element is determined by chronological order.

  • Patent number: 11677993
Abstract: A streaming device may request and download multi-layer video segments based on a number of factors including the artistic interest associated with the video segments and/or the status of a buffer area managed by the streaming device. The multi-layer segments may be coded using scalable coding techniques or a combination of scalable coding and simulcast coding techniques by which each of the video segments may be coded into one or more representations of different qualities and/or bitrates. When requesting the multi-layer segments, the streaming device may ensure that the fullness of the buffer area falls between a buffer underflow threshold and a backfilling threshold under various network conditions. The streaming device may estimate the available network bandwidth in order to facilitate the scheduling decisions. The streaming device may consider the artistic interest associated with the video segments during scheduling and may give priority to those segments with higher artistic interest.

  • Patent number: 11653014
Abstract: A method for decoding a large field of view video is disclosed. At least one picture of said large field of view video is represented as a 3D surface projected onto at least one 2D picture using a projection function. • Patent number: 11624934
Abstract: Display methods and apparatus are described. In some embodiments, to generate an image, light is selectively emitted from one or more light-emitting elements (such as a ?LEDs) in a light-emitting layer. The emitted light from each element is collimated using, for example, an array of microlenses having small apertures. Each beam of collimated light is split by a first diffractive grating into a first generation of child beams, and the first generation of child beams is split by a second diffractive grating into a second generation of child beams. Beams in the second generation of child beams that are not parallel to the original beam of collimated light may be blocked by a spatial light modulator (e.g. an LCD panel). The un-blocked beams operate in some respects as if they had been generated using optics with an aperture larger than the apertures of the microlenses.

  • Patent number: 11616942
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein provide for rendering and quality monitoring of rendering of a 360-degree video, where the video has a plurality of representations with different levels of quality in different regions. In an exemplary method, a client device tracks a position of a viewport with respect to the 360-degree video and renders to the viewport a selected set of the representations. The client adaptively adds and removes representations from the selected set based on the viewport position. The client also measures and reports a viewport switching latency. In some embodiments, the latency for a viewport switch is a comparable-quality viewport switch latency that represents the time it takes after a viewport switch to return to a quality comparable to the pre-switch viewport quality.

  • Patent number: 11563975
Abstract: At least a method and an apparatus are presented for efficiently encoding or decoding video. For example, a prediction block for a current block is obtained. A reconstructed neighboring block of the prediction block is obtained. Filtering is performed on a boundary between the prediction block and the reconstructed neighboring block. At the encoder side, the prediction residual is obtained as the difference between the filtered prediction block and the current block, and then encoded. At the decoder side, the prediction residual is added to the filtered prediction block to reconstruct the current block.

  • Patent number: 11533502
Abstract: A block of video data is split and coded using existing transform sizes through one of several embodiments. In one embodiment, the block is split in alternate dimensions, depending on the block size. In another embodiment, the video block can be coded after splitting the block into at least two rectangular sub-blocks using horizontal or vertical divisions. Successive divisions using asymmetric splitting are forbidden if an equivalent split can be attained using only symmetrical splitting, and only one succession of divisions is permitted when there are other successions of asymmetric splitting that result in the identical sub-blocks. In another embodiment, a video block is split using successive splits, but the second type of split is dependent on the first type of split. Methods, apparatus, and signal embodiments are provided for encoding and decoding.

  • Patent number: 11520935
Abstract: Back-up procedures for saving configuration data are provided, which enable the restoration of said configuration data on the device when it is reset to default, or on another device when the device is stolen or broken. Since configuration data are sensitive data, it is important to protect their confidentiality and their integrity throughout the back-up and restore process. Current solutions enable a secure back-up and restore process on the same device since the backed-up configuration data are encrypted using credentials that are only known to the device. In order to overcome these drawbacks, a solution is proposed for performing a secure back-up process which enables the restoration of the backed-up data to the same device or to a distinct device. This is made possible by using encryption keys that are common to a pool of devices. Those common encryption keys are provided during the manufacturing of the devices.

  • Patent number: 11503314
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for providing viewers of adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming video with the option to view alternative streams in which an alternative tone mapping is applied to one or more regions of interest. The availability of streams with alternative tone mappings may be identified in a media presentation description (MPD) in an MPEG-DASH system. In some embodiments, the streaming video is divided into slices, and alternative tone mappings are applied to regions of interest within the slices. When a server receives a request from a client device for alternative tone mappings of different regions, slices with the appropriate mapping may be assembled on demand and delivered to the requestor as a single video stream. Tone mappings may be used, for example, to highlight particular players in a sporting event.
