  • Patent number: 6101697
Abstract: The apparatus takes coil springs and sequentially forms fabric pockets around the coil springs to form a string of pocket coil springs. It includes a system for forming a length of folded fabric for movement on a frame, a split cylinder which moves to an inclined position to receive a coil spring and then to a generally vertical position to locate the coil spring on a support member and to allow a compressing member to extend through the gap of the split cylinder to compress the coil spring. An inserting device is employed to insert the compressed coil spring between the folded layers of the length of folded fabric which then is moved on the frame to bonding units to allow an edge bond and transverse bonds to be made to form a pocket around each coil spring. The bonding units includes of two stationary ultrasonic bonding devices fixedly located below the length of folded fabric with movable anvils located above the length of folded fabric which are employed for carrying out the bonding operations.

  • Patent number: 5231714
Abstract: A support member has an enlarged rectangular shaped wall with an inner side and an outer side and four side walls extending from the inner side with free edges spaced from the enlarged rectangular shaped wall forming a rectangular shaped opening large enough to receive and support a mattress on the inner side of the enlarged rectangular shaped wall between the side walls. The enlarged rectangular shaped wall and the four side walls of the support member are formed of layers of fibrous material such as paper or fiberboard glued together. The enlarged rectangular shaped wall and the side walls of the support member are strong enough to allow the support member to be supported by the edges of the side walls on a surface and to support a mattress on the outer side of the enlarged rectangular shaped wall for sleeping purposes thereby forming a foundation for the mattress.

  • Patent number: 4955095
Abstract: A removable pillow top for use as the top member of a bed protects the inner spring bed mattress. The pillow top has a cover, a support member, and a cushion. The cover has top and bottom walls and side walls coupled together to form an interior space for receiving the support member and the cushion. The support member is made of foam and has a bottom wall and side walls forming a shallow cavity for receiving the cushion. The cover has a closable opening for allowing insertion and removal of the support member and the cushion. The bottom wall of the cover has fasteners for removable coupling with fasteners on the top surface of the inner spring mattress. If soiled, the pillow top is removed from the protected inner spring mattress and cleaned. To clean the pillow top, the support member and cushion can be removed for cleaning and replaced.
