  • Patent number: 8782646
Abstract: In a NUMA-topology computer system that includes multiple nodes and multiple logical partitions, some of which may be dedicated and others of which are shared, NUMA optimizations are enabled in shared logical partitions. This is done by specifying a home node parameter in each virtual processor assigned to a logical partition. When a task is created by an operating system in a shared logical partition, a home node is assigned to the task, and the operating system attempts to assign the task to a virtual processor that has a home node that matches the home node for the task. The partition manager then attempts to assign virtual processors to their corresponding home nodes. If this can be done, NUMA optimizations may be performed without the risk of reducing the performance of the shared logical partition.

  • Publication number: 20140033268
Abstract: A method for automated network deployment of cloud services into a network is suggested. The method includes receiving a certain cloud service with a certain resource protection template specifying an isolation policy for isolating zones in the network, receiving certain customer protection parameters specifying customer needs regarding protection in the network, providing security requirements by matching the received resource protection templates and the received customer protection parameters, and automatically deploying the certain cloud service into the network by using the provided security requirements.

  • Patent number: 6829762
Abstract: Within a data processing system, a pool of facilities are allocated to an operating system, where each facility within the pool of facilities has an associated real address. The operating system allocates from the pool at least one bypass facility to a first process that the first process is permitted to directly access by its associated real address without first obtaining translation of a non-real address. The operating system also allocates from the pool at least one protected facility to a second process that the second process accesses only by translation of a non-real address to obtain the real address associated with the protected facility. Accesses to the facilities are either protected or unprotected based upon the state of a bypass field within a request address.

  • Publication number: 20040015868
Abstract: A method and implementing system are provided in which customers of an Application Service Provider (ASP) are enabled to access an upgraded version of a software application being used by the customer without interfering with the use and access by the customer of the current version of the software application for which the upgrade is offered. In an exemplary embodiment, a customer is notified that an upgraded version of an application accessed by the customer is available for testing. The customer is enabled to input whether the customer wishes to test the upgraded application version. If the customer selects to test the upgraded version, the customer is made aware of an upgrade site or address which is arranged to host the upgrade. The customer is further enabled to access the upgrade site to access and test the upgraded application.

  • Patent number: 6678945
Abstract: A tool is described for the backside removal of single pins from a high pin density connector, either from the connector itself or a connector with pins such as compliant pins mounted in plated through vias on a host such as a printed circuit board. A pin is driven from a connector by advancing a sleeve portion to surround the pin and subsequently pushing the pin from the connector using a shaft with a spherical, concave end surface, whereby the pin is radially confined by the sleeve and aligned and driven by the shaft as it is advanced through the sleeve. Where the connector is mounted on a printed circuit board with the pin resident in a plated through via, the sleeve is aligned with and abutting the printed circuit board at the via opening and the shaft is thereafter advanced through and beyond the sleeve to engage, align and drive the pin with the via wall providing radial confinement.

  • Publication number: 20020194217
Abstract: A computer for implementing a method for generating metadata objects is disclosed. A graphical user interface of the computer displays a spreadsheet including metadata information and/or metadata directives. The graphical user interface further provides a command to convert the spreadsheet into a comma separated value file. Upon a conversion of the spreadsheet to the comma separated value file, the metadata information therein is parsed in accordance with any metadata directives therein to thereby generate the metadata objects.

  • Publication number: 20020126306
Abstract: A print instruction program and method for allowing a network terminal device to send print instructions to a PDF direct-printing printer in a communications network in an efficient and advantageous manner. The program and method includes the capability to obtain PDF file name and network address data from the location of a mouse pointer in a web browser screen. The file name and address data can be stored locally on the network terminal device, preferably in a list format. The program and method also provides for the display and operation of a direct print menu in association with a click on a control button of the mouse. The program and method allows the PDF file name and address data to be sent to the network-attached printer, either singly or as part of a list and either as a network address or as an actual file.

  • Patent number: 6066952
Abstract: A method of measuring a width of an undoped or lightly doped polysilicon line is disclosed. The width measuring method includes generating carriers in the polysilicon line with an energy source; measuring a capacitance between the polysilicon line and a substrate separated from the polysilicon line by a dielectric layer; and determining a line width of the polysilicon line from the measured capacitance. The capacitance measurement includes connecting first and second probes to the polysilicon line; connecting a third probe to the substrate; connecting a first terminal of a capacitance meter to the first and second probes; connecting a second terminal of the capacitance meter to the third probe; and applying a direct current bias across the first and second probes. A capacitor may be connected between the first and second probes. Further steps include, connecting a fourth probe to a conductor that supports the substrate; and connecting the fourth probe to the third probe.
