  • Patent number: 10378980
Abstract: Collecting roll data for a sensing roll and mating roll forming a nip includes generating a respective sensor signal from each of a plurality of sensors located at axially spaced-apart locations of the sensing roll, wherein each respective sensor signal is generated when each sensor enters a region of a nip between the sensing roll and the mating roll during each rotation of the sensing roll and receiving the generated signal. Upon receiving the signal, a processor a) determines a particular which of the sensors which generated the signal, b) based upon a rotational position of the mating roll relative to a reference position, determines which one of a plurality of tracking segments associated with the mating roll occurs substantially concurrently with the sensor entering the region of the nip, and c) stores the respective sensor signal to associate the signal with the determined one tracking segment.

  • Patent number: 10378150
Abstract: A sensor signal is generated from a plurality of sensors located on a sensing roll, wherein each signal is generated when each sensor enters a first nip between the sensing roll and a rotating component during each rotation of the sensing roll. A rotating applicator rod forms forming a second nip with the sensing roll such that each sensor enters the second nip during each rotation of the sensing roll. A periodically occurring starting reference is generated associated with each rotation of the applicator rod and the signal generated by each sensor is received so that a particular one of the sensors which generated the signal is determined and one of a plurality of tracking segments is identified. The signal is stored to associate the sensor signal with the identified one tracking segment.

  • Publication number: 20190169799
Abstract: Pulp sheets produced from Southern pine fibers are disclosed. Embodiments in which the fibers have a fiber length to coarseness ratio equal to or greater than 0.11, with fiber length (LWAFL) in mm and coarseness in mg/100 m, are found to impart stiffness properties to tissue grade handsheets made therefrom comparable to those achieved using of standard NBSK. Embodiments in which the fibers have a low coarseness (of from about 16 to about 20 mg/100 m, at a fiber length (LWAFL) of from about 1.6 to about 3.0 mm) are found to impart wicking properties to absorbent structures made therefrom that are improved relative to those achieved using standard high coarseness SBSK.

  • Patent number: 10287383
Abstract: Grafted, crosslinked cellulosic materials include cellulose fibers and polymer chains composed of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated acid group-containing monomer (such as acrylic acid) grafted thereto, in which one or more of said cellulose fibers and said polymer chains are crosslinked (such as by intra-fiber chain-to-chain crosslinks). Some of such materials are characterized by a wet bulk of about 10.0-17.0 cm3/g, an IPRP value of about 1000 to 7700 cm2/MPa·sec, and/or a MAP value of about 7.0 to 38 cm H2O. Methods for producing such materials may include grafting polymer chains from a cellulosic substrate, followed by treating the grafted material with a crosslinking agent adapted to effect crosslinking of one or more of the cellulosic substrate or the polymer chains. Example crosslinking mechanisms include esterfication reactions, ionic reactions, and radical reactions, and example crosslinking agents include pentaerythritol, homopolymers of the graft species monomer, and hyperbranched polymers.

  • Patent number: 10262559
Abstract: A foldable display comprising: a sleeve, two inserts spaced apart in an interior of the sleeve, and an elastic member comprising a first end coupled to one insert and a second end coupled to the other insert such that the elastic member extends between the two inserts. Each insert is coupled to an interior surface of the sleeve. When the display is in a collapsed position, the sleeve is in a flattened state and each insert is in a folded position that increases a distance between the two inserts. When the display is in a deployed position, each insert is in an unfolded position that decreases the distance between the two inserts. One or more sections of an outer perimeter of each insert contact one or more adjacent sections of the interior surface of the sleeve and bias the sleeve outward such that the sleeve forms a three-dimensional figure.

  • Publication number: 20190085508
Abstract: Methods of forming crosslinked cellulose include mixing a crosslinking agent with cellulose mat fiber fragments composed of hydrogen-bonded cellulose fibers and having a solids content of about 45-95% to form a substantially homogenous mixture of non-crosslinked, individualized cellulose fibers, drying the resulting mixture to 85-100% solids, then curing the dried mixture under conditions effective to crosslink the cellulose fibers. Some of such methods may include fragmenting a cellulose fiber mat to form the mat fragments. Systems include a mixing unit (such as a high-consistency mixer) configured to form, from the mat fragments and a crosslinking agent, a substantially homogenous mixture of non-crosslinked, individualized cellulose fibers and crosslinking agent, at ambient conditions, a drying unit to dry the substantially homogenous mixture to a consistency of 85-100%, and a curing unit and to cure the crosslinking agent to form dried and cured crosslinked cellulose fibers.
