  • Patent number: 7772136
Abstract: A roofing underlayment comprises a reinforcing layer, which is extrusion coated on at least one side with an anti-slip coating layer. Preferably, the reinforcing layer comprises a woven polyethylene or polypropylene scrim. The anti-slip coating layer comprises a compound based on a styrene and ethylene/butylene-styrene, S-E/B-S, block copolymer, such as the compound sold under the trademark KRATONĀ® MD6649. The anti-slip coating layer is low in cost and helps prevent water from penetrating the primary roofing material. In addition, the anti-slip coating layer provides an improved anti-skid surface upon which an individual may safely walk.

  • Publication number: 20100105847
Abstract: A process for continuous bulk polymerization is disclosed that includes providing a plug flow reactor comprising a primary loop reactor including a loop for recirculating a portion of a polymer-in-progress at a polymer flow rate back to a reactor in the primary loop reactor, introducing at least one monomer into the primary recirculation loop reactor at a monomer flow rate, polymerizing the monomer in the primary recirculation loop reactor in the presence of an initiator by way of a free-radical polymerization to form a polymer-in-progress, and recirculating a first portion of the polymer-in-progress through the loop into a reactor in the primary loop reactor to combine with the monomer at a ratio of polymer flow rate to monomer flow rate that is greater than 5.

  • Publication number: 20090280301
Abstract: Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating. The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a lipophilic agent, a flocculating agent, or combinations thereof. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability by preventing paints, varnishes, paint strippers, and other coating compositions from infiltrating the tape substrate or the interface between the tape and an adherend.

  • Patent number: 7476416
Abstract: A process for preparing a pressure sensitive adhesive using a modified planetary roller extruder is described. The process in accordance with one aspect of the invention includes introducing primary raw materials including a non-thermoplastic elastomer into a feeding section of the modified planetary roller extruder, conveying the raw materials from the feeding section to a compounding section of the modified planetary roller extruder, continuously mixing the primary raw materials in the compounding section to produce a homogeneous adhesive composition. The adhesive composition may be applied to a web-form material. The compounding section of the modified planetary roller extruder includes a main spindle surrounded by and intermeshed with a plurality of planetary spindles at least one of which is a double transversal mixing spindle having a plurality of back-cut helical flights.

  • Patent number: 7309665
Abstract: A failure resistant, flame retardant vapor barrier facing for insulation is disclosed. The facing is comprised of a coating and a backing. The coating comprises a pair of coextruded composites each composite comprised of FR material, UV blocking material, pigment material and a polyolefin (e.g., LDPE). The backing is a woven substrate woven from flame retardant polyolefin (e.g., HDPE) tapes. The woven substrate is laminated to building insulation using an adhesive. The woven substrate lends strength, flexibility and form to the facing.

Abstract: Multilayer shrink films and methods of making same that are substantially free of silicone. The multilayer shrink films of the invention are produced using film biaxial orienting means, have haze values of 5 or less and Young's modulus of 40,000 psi or greater and superior hot slip properties. Cyclic-olefin copolymer (COC) is used in the outermost layers to impart superior hot slip. Preferably the film comprises large proportion of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) or ethylene propylene butane terpolymer. Suitable COCs for use in the invention are limited to single site catalyzed COC.
