  • Patent number: 9696742
Abstract: Two-wire transmitters are described in which the required voltage that a control room must supply to the transmitter is lower at high current than at low current, thus freeing up more voltage for other uses, and in which a constant set of operating voltages may be maintained. A corrected pressure in a vortex flow meter may be determined that reflects the mass flow rate. Thus, the mass flow rate may be determined based on the corrected pressure reading and a measured volumetric flow rate. Density may be determined from pressure and temperature using a table containing error values based on a standard density determination and a relatively simple approximation. During operation of a flow meter, the stored error values may be linearly interpolated and the approximation may be computed to determine the density from the stored error value.

  • Publication number: 20170168993
Abstract: A historian interface system provides a graphical representation of tags that represent attributes of a continuous process. A historian system stores the tags and metadata values describing the tags. A display device coupled to the historian system via a communication network displays graphical representations of the tags via display panels and receives selections of the tags. The historian system contextualizes selected tags based on the metadata values describing the selected tag and determines an optimal visualization scheme for the selected tags. The display device displays graphical representations of values of the tags and dynamically determines optimal grouping of the tags based on properties of the display device.

Abstract: A well test system for testing fluids produced from one or more petroleum wells has a separator and a plurality of multiphase flow metering systems, each of which has the capability, over at least a portion of its operating envelope, of separately measuring flow rates of oil, water, and gas. The well test system has a fluidic system, including gas leg conduits coupling the separator to the multiphase flow metering systems, liquid leg conduits coupling separator to the multiphase flow metering systems, and bypass conduits for directing multiphase fluid to the multiphase flow metering systems while bypassing the separator. Valves are configured to selectively route fluid flow though the fluidic system to selectively bypass the separator when the multiphase flow metering systems can be used to provide separate flow rates of oil, water, and gas in the unseparated multiphase fluids from the well.

  • Publication number: 20170115644
Abstract: Simulation of process control environments, including dynamic properties, with a modified first-order Taylor series expansion. By using more linear calculations, a physical dynamic property is approximated in less time and with fewer computing resources. By adjusting the approximation to introduce curvature, a physical dynamic property is represented over a wider range than with basic linear series expansions. A comparison to a basic linear first-order series expansion identifies conditions when a rigorous update of a dynamic property is needed.

  • Patent number: 9618925
Abstract: A multi-editing mode LOGIC BLOCK object editor is disclosed for creating and modifying LOGIC BLOCK objects that are incorporated into control strategies for process control systems (both distributed and discrete). The editor includes an RPN text editing mode wherein logic incorporated into a LOGIC BLOCK is represented by a list of text instructions. The editor also includes a graphical function block diagram editing mode wherein LOGIC BLOCK logic is defined via instruction shapes dragged/dropped from a pallet and connected via GUI line connection actions by a user. The editor supports automated transitioning between the text and graphics modes wherein conversion of text-to-graphics and graphics-to-text is performed without user intervention. Furthermore, synchronization procedures are performed when LOGIC BLOCK objects are opened in the editor and when transitioning between editing modes to track and/or maintain synchronous status between graphical and text representations of LOGIC BLOCK logic.

  • Patent number: 9618374
Abstract: Flowmeters are described in which a sensor signal received from a sensor that is attached to vibratable flowtube, so as to determine properties of a fluid within the flowtube, contains a drive signal component and a Coriolis mode component. The flowmeters are operable to determine drive parameters of the drive signal component, as well as Coriolis parameters of the Coriolis mode component. By analyzing the sensor signal based on the drive signal parameters, and not on the Coriolis signal parameters, the flowmeters are able to provide stable and accurate determinations of the properties of the fluid.

  • Publication number: 20170083015
Abstract: Targeted distributing of reports containing historical process control information to particular user devices via a communications network. A curating service permits assigning a score to each report based on an interest level value of the historical process control information to a user associated with each user device and/or an urgency value of the historical process control information. Routing reports to user devices based on the score raises visibility of the historical process control information without overburdening the communications network.

  • Publication number: 20170083561
Abstract: Systems and methods for generating an event-based data set using a computer implemented asset monitoring system are provided. An asset repository stores data related to one or more commissioned assets of an asset monitoring system. When event data is received from an asset, whether an asset maintenance record corresponding to the asset exists in the asset repository is determined based on comparing the data in the asset repository to the event data. When the asset maintenance record is determined to not exist in the asset repository, an asset identification record corresponding to the asset is rendered. The asset identification record comprises the event data and additional asset-related data collected from the asset. An event-based data set is generated based on the asset identification record.
