Abstract: Hydrolysis-stable, thermoplastic block polyetheresteramides are produced by a catalyzed polycondensation of linear, aliphatic polyamides having carboxyl end groups with .alpha.,.omega.-dihydroxypolyethers and additionally, a linear or branched, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol having 2-8 carbon atoms in an amount of 3-30 mol %, relative to the sum of the moles of both other starting materials. The ratio of the moles of the polyamide components to the sum of the moles of the dihydroxypolyether and diol components is 0.81 to 0.985.

Abstract: Polyetherpolyamide copolymers are disclosed which comprise the product of the polycondensation of a diamine with the equivalent amount of a dicarboxylic acid and a common polyamide forming component, wherein the diamine contains a polyether block containing at least 3 ether oxygen atoms separated from each other by a carbon chain selected from the group consisting of linear carbon chains of at least 3 carbon atoms, branched carbon chains of at least 2 carbon atoms between the ether oxygen atoms and mixtures thereof and a common polyamide block which is mainly a homopolyamide. The present compositions exhibit improved flexibility and low temperature properties and may be processed by injection molding and extrusion techniques.

Abstract: A process for the production of cobaltocen comprising reacting at least one cobalt alcoholate with cyclopentadiene in the presence of at least one alkaline catalyst is disclosed. The reaction product may be purified by various combinations of distillation, solution and filtration, and crystallization. Cobaltocen is a known compound useful as a catalyst and activator in various reactions.

Abstract: Filaments of a copolyamide which is derived from at least three polyamide-forming, unbranched, saturated, randomly distributed monomer components, having an average amide group frequency of one --CONH-- to 6.4 to 7.4 --CH.sub.2 -- and in which each of said monomer components is present in an amount of 10 to 60 mol %, based on the number of moles of all said components, and the sum of the mole % amounts of all monomer components is 100, said copolyamide having a melting point of less than 155.degree. C. A method of making such filaments is also disclosed.

Abstract: Polyamides are described which are useful for injection molding and which are produced by the polycondensation of (a) a diaminodicyclohexane or a diaminodicyclohexylalkane, (b) a polyamide-forming aromatic dicarboxylic acid, and (c) an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid-diamine mixture or salt thereof.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for the recovery of gas evolved from fermentation is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a vessel containing the fermentation material, and a head slidably mounted on the vessel forming a substantially gas tight chamber therewith. Mounted on the head are a series of projections of various shapes which extend into the chamber. As the fermentation proceeds, the generation of gas causes the head to rise. When it has risen a sufficient amount, a gas outlet valve is opened and the gas is introduced into a collector. The reduction in gas pressure causes the head to drop. The movement of the head causes the projections to break through the scum layer at the surface of the fermentation broth, thereby enhancing the reaction. In a preferred form of the device, the projections are so formed as to urge the scum towards the discharge means, thereby breaking and removing the scum without the use of any additional energy. A method for using the apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract: Polyamides are described which are useful for injection molding and which are produced by the polycondensation of (a) a diaminodicyclohexane or a diaminodicyclohexylalkane, (b) a polyamide-forming aromatic dicarboxylic acid of more than 9 carbon atoms, and (c) an .omega.-amino-acid, a lactam of more than 9 carbon atoms, or an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid-diamine mixture or salt thereof.

Abstract: The present invention provides for a novel fiber-reinforced cement-like material which is characterized by having short polyvinyl alcohol fibers in an amount of at least 2 volume % based on the total volume of said material. These fibers have an elongation at break of between about 4 and 8% and a modulus of more than 130 g/dtex. A process for the preparation of said material is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method for the continous transfer of pourable solids such as granular solids by means of a liquid of lesser density is disclosed. The solid is mixed with and carried by the liquid through an inlet and a rotary zone. The rate of flow of the solids into the rotary zone is controlled by the selective withdrawal of liquid from the rotary zone. The rotary zone comprises rotating volumes that carry the solids and liquid to an outlet in the rotary zone. An additional liquid is injected adjacent the outlet so that the solids are emptied from the volumes into the outlet. An apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention is also disclosed.

Abstract: Pressure medium regulating device in which a fluid cell is positioned between the inlet and outlet of the device. The inlet is connected to a source of pressure medium and the outlet to a motor or other apparatus fed and operated by the regulating device. Flow through the regulator is reduced or increased in accordance with demand by the fluid cell which responds to line pressure of the pressure medium.

Abstract: A composition for causing one layer of fabric or similar material to adhere to an adjacent layer comprising a copolyamide dispersion containing 0.2 to 5.0% by weight of a fatty alcohol based on the total dispersion. A method of preparation of such dispersions and of dot coating with them is also disclosed.

Abstract: A process for making hydroxyl ammonium salts by hydrogenation of nitric oxide in an acid medium in the presence of a platinum catalyst, wherein the catalyst contains 15 to 50 atom percent of selenium and the acid medium is at least 2N during the reaction. A new catalyst and method of making it are also disclosed.

Abstract: A process for improving the adhesion to rubber of poly-1,3,4-oxadiozole filaments by applying compounds having at least one N-glycidyl group to the filaments. The products of the process and the use thereof in rubber articles are also disclosed.

Abstract: Fluid motor means having a sectional housing containing a fluid flow passage therebetween is provided. The passage has a cross section which varies in response to load changes, along with means in the passage for varying the flow of pressure fluid to the motor in response to said load changes. Expansion or fluid chambers are preferably used to couple input and output members in a manner responsive to torque changes.

Abstract: Novel platinum catalysts and a method for their preparation are disclosed. They are prepared by treating catalysts of platinum metal with salts of sulfurous acid or with sulfur compounds which liberate sulfurous acid in the presence of an acid. The treatment is conducted in the presence of hydroxylammonium salts in acid medium and in the absence of oxidizing agents capable of oxidizing sulfurous acid to form sulfate. The resulting catalysts are useful in preparing hydroxylamine.

Abstract: Fibers and yarn and a process for preparing them comprising dissolving in concentrated sulfuric acid a polymer containing at least 75 mol percent of an aromatic poly-(1,3,4-oxadiazole) having the repeating structural formul a ##SPC1##In which Ar is ##SPC2## the benzene rings in A or B being substituted or unsubstituted; the linking bonds in A being situated m- or p- with respect to each other, and in B situated m- or p- with respect to X; X being --SO.sub.2 -- or --CO--; and n being 1 or 2. The solution is then spun through a spinneret into a substantially water-free precipitating medium of at least one liquid having the formula (II) ##EQU1## IN WHICH R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 may be the same or different and are alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R.sub.3 may also be H, and in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 or R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 may together comprise a divalent alkylene radical, the total number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.

Abstract: In a process for the preparation of lactam from cycloalkanone comprising reacting said alkanone with hydroxylamine sulfate to form the corresponding cycloalkanone oxime followed by Beckman rearrangement to yield said lactam and neutralization of the sulfuric acid formed by ammonia whereby ammonium sulfate is formed as a byproduct, the improvement which comprises reacting said ammonium sulfate with an alkaline-earth metal oxide or hydroxide to form an alkaline earth metal sulfate and ammonia, heating said alkaline-earth metal sulfate to decompose it into said alkaline-earth metal oxide and sulfur dioxide and/or sulfur trioxide, converting said sulfur dioxide and/or sulfur trioxide into sulfuric acid, whereby said sulfuric acid and said ammonia are capable of reuse in said process.

Abstract: Hydraulic and pneumatic motors having expansion chambers arranged between two supporting means, at least one of which is rotatable, said chambers formed at least in part of material that is elastically deformable by the pressure medium used, are provided. The invention also provides a control system for introducing the pressure medium into the chambers sequentially and expelling it sequentially after each chamber has attained maximum volume.

Abstract: A process for reactivating platinum catalysts is disclosed. It comprises treating a platinum catalyst having reduced activity and selectivityA. in a first stage with an acid solution of a sulfur compound which liberates sulfurous acid in acid medium, and a hydroxylammonium salt, said treatment being conducted in the absence of oxidizing agents capable of oxidizing sulfurous acid to sulfate, andB. in a second stage with an acid solution of platinum (II) or platinum (IV) compounds in the presence of hydrogen.
