    Abstract: Hydrolysis-stable, thermoplastic block polyetheresteramides are produced by a catalyzed polycondensation of linear, aliphatic polyamides having carboxyl end groups with .alpha.,.omega.-dihydroxypolyethers and additionally, a linear or branched, aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol having 2-8 carbon atoms in an amount of 3-30 mol %, relative to the sum of the moles of both other starting materials. The ratio of the moles of the polyamide components to the sum of the moles of the dihydroxypolyether and diol components is 0.81 to 0.985.

    Abstract: Polyetherpolyamide copolymers are disclosed which comprise the product of the polycondensation of a diamine with the equivalent amount of a dicarboxylic acid and a common polyamide forming component, wherein the diamine contains a polyether block containing at least 3 ether oxygen atoms separated from each other by a carbon chain selected from the group consisting of linear carbon chains of at least 3 carbon atoms, branched carbon chains of at least 2 carbon atoms between the ether oxygen atoms and mixtures thereof and a common polyamide block which is mainly a homopolyamide. The present compositions exhibit improved flexibility and low temperature properties and may be processed by injection molding and extrusion techniques.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for the recovery of gas evolved from fermentation is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a vessel containing the fermentation material, and a head slidably mounted on the vessel forming a substantially gas tight chamber therewith. Mounted on the head are a series of projections of various shapes which extend into the chamber. As the fermentation proceeds, the generation of gas causes the head to rise. When it has risen a sufficient amount, a gas outlet valve is opened and the gas is introduced into a collector. The reduction in gas pressure causes the head to drop. The movement of the head causes the projections to break through the scum layer at the surface of the fermentation broth, thereby enhancing the reaction. In a preferred form of the device, the projections are so formed as to urge the scum towards the discharge means, thereby breaking and removing the scum without the use of any additional energy. A method for using the apparatus is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A method for the continous transfer of pourable solids such as granular solids by means of a liquid of lesser density is disclosed. The solid is mixed with and carried by the liquid through an inlet and a rotary zone. The rate of flow of the solids into the rotary zone is controlled by the selective withdrawal of liquid from the rotary zone. The rotary zone comprises rotating volumes that carry the solids and liquid to an outlet in the rotary zone. An additional liquid is injected adjacent the outlet so that the solids are emptied from the volumes into the outlet. An apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention is also disclosed.
