  • Patent number: 3961631
Abstract: A surgical procedure wherein tissue which normally covers a body part is displaced away from a portion thereof to expose the latter portion of the body part so that a given treatment can be performed thereon. This exposed portion of the body part is covered with a layer of a highly viscous semisolid substance. Then the tissue is returned to a position covering the semisolid substance. In this way this semisolid substance becomes situated between the previously exposed portion of the body part and the tissue.

  • Patent number: 3951132
Abstract: An implant which includes an elongated member to be situated in the interior of a tubular body organ and carrying at its exterior a structure for promoting the ingrowth of tissue, this structure being situated inwardly from a free end of the elongated member which enters the tubular organ in advance of the ingrowth structure. Between this free end of the elongated member and the ingrowth structure are barbs which are fixed to the elongated member, which are circumferentially distributed about the latter, and which are inclined away from the free end of the elongated member and extend over the ingrowth structure. These barbs are flexible so that they are capable of being radially deflected toward the elongated member. When the elongated member is to be introduced into the tubular organ, the latter is gripped with tweezers which have teeth which engage the tubular organ and which are circumferentially distributed about the latter.

  • Patent number: 3938528
Abstract: Implanting and splicing articles and methods for living beings. When an implant is introduced into the interior of a body cavity mucosa is simultaneously removed from a lining of the body cavity, and the surface from which the mucosa is removed is placed in engagement with a structure for promoting the ingrowth of tissue while being immobilized with respect to this latter structure. Thus, the leading end of an implant which first enters the cavity carries an element which removes mucosa simultaneously with the introduction of the implant and which immobilizes the surface from which mucosa has been removed, the implant carrying just to the rear of the latter element a structure for engaging the surface from which the mucosa has been removed and promoting the ingrowth of tissue.

  • Patent number: 3931820
Abstract: A reamer, particularly for removing mucosa from the lumen of a tubular body organ. The reamer has an elongated reaming portion to one end of which a handle is fixed. The reaming portion is hollow and of polygonal cross section so that it is made up of a plurality of walls distributed about an axis of the reaming portion. At locations where these walls would normally intersect, the reaming portion is formed with slots, the edges of which form reaming edges.
