  • Patent number: 4885965
Abstract: A rotary table saw for sectioning dental models having a housing with a base portion and a working table mounted on the base portion. The working table is controllably depressible so as to be moved upward and downward with respect to the base. The motor housed in the base drives a rotary blade oriented in a vertical direction. A slit in the work table permits the blade to emerge therethrough as the work table is depressed. The vacuum outlet is placed in flow communication with the surface of the work table during depression of the work table to remove saw dust from the work table. The dental model is placed on the work table with the blade hidden beneath the work table. The work table is depressed to permit emerging of the rotary blade cutting from the underside of the dental model.

  • Patent number: 4854871
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a counterbored channel into the top surface of a tooth root in preparation for receiving a dental post and core during the fabrication of a superstructure on the tooth root. A dental tool is utilized for forming a counterbored recess around the mouth of a pre-drilled central bore. A dental jig having an enlarged flange which snugly fits into the counterbored channel is then used to form ancillary bores to provide a contoured aperture which will receive a correspondingly contoured post. The dental tool is then used to make similar counterbored recesses around the ancillary bores whereby the composite of the counterbored recesses forms a substantial oval channel wherein the core can suitably sit on a level surface perpendicular to the post without the necessity of leveling off the entire upper surface of the tooth root.

  • Patent number: 4820159
Abstract: A dental core and post assembly for use in the formation of a dental core for the restoration of a tooth structure. The dental post assembly includes a support structure for positioning into a prepared tooth root to be restored. At least one leg depends from the support structure for insertion into an ancillary bore predrilled into the root adjacent a central bore predrilled through a canal in the tooth root. An axial aperture through the support structure permits a pin to be adjustably inserted through the axial aperture and into the central bore until it is seated in the central bore. The leg is contiguous with the pin. In one form the invention provides a burnout core and post for the direct technique of forming a post and core system. In another form, the invention provides an impression post for use in connection with the formation of an impression in the indirect technique of forming the core and post system.

  • Patent number: 4781585
Abstract: A router for performing finishing operations on a dental model having a housing with a base in which a motor is positioned. A storage compartment mounted on the base includes a pivotal cover. The cover forms a horizontal work platform on which the dental model is supported during the operations. The motor extends into the storage compartment and a tool is secured to the shaft for vertical projection above the work platform through a hole in the cover. Apertures in the cover permit dust to fall down into the storage compartment from which a vacuum extracts the dust. A novel method of routing dental models is provided wherein the dental model is placed on a horizontal work surface and finished using a vertically oriented tool.

  • Patent number: 4767332
Abstract: A self-threading dental anchor including a proximal head end providing a manipulating end section for permitting the coupling thereof to a cooperating driving tool, and a threaded anchoring portion extending from the proximal head end. The anchoring portion threads are in the range of 60-100 threads per inch, preferably 84 threads per inch with standard threads and 96 threads per inch with a buttress type thread, to provide for fast insertion with minimum torque. The anchoring portion has an elongated distal pilot end portion in the axial direction approximately equal to the thread pitch of approximately 0.010 to 0.012 inches. A second threaded anchoring portion may be connected to the distal pilot end portion of the first mentioned anchoring portion to provide a frangible reduced thickness portion therebetween, which is readily visible. Preferably, each thread has a height of approximately 0.0020 to 0.0025 inches.

  • Patent number: 4759715
Abstract: A dental pin assembly including an elongated dental pin inserted within a magazine sleeve. The magazine sleeve is removably inserted into the distal end of a shank and locked in place. The shank in turn is driven by a handpiece or manual driver for rotation of the pin. The pin is a composite of a plurality of individual contiguous coaxial pin sections, each pin section having a threaded stem and an enlarged head. Adjacent pin sections are separated by reduced diameter throat portions which are frangible to permit separation of one pin section from the next upon insertion of the one pin section into an aperture in a tooth stub. As one pin section is sheared off upon insertion, the next adjacent pin section is ejected from the adapter to place it in operative position for subsequent insertion into another aperture in the tooth stub. In this manner only one pin section projects at a time and all of the throat portions can be of identical diameter.
