Patent number: 4101094Abstract: A variety of belt locking mechanisms are disclosed, each utilizing a first mechanism responsive to sudden tensioning in the belt to lock it against further withdrawal, and a second involving a pendulum mechanism responsive to sudden changes in vehicle speed to lock the belt. Each belt tensioning device includes a reciprocable pin or shaft reponsive to increased belt tension to shift in a direction in which it causes a locking lever to engage lockingly with the teeth on a cogwheel which rotates with the spindle on which the belt is wound. The locking lever may be held against the resistance of a spring in its released position by a pendulum-type mechanism which moves in response to sudden changes in vehicle speed to release and allow the latch to pivot to its locking position.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1976Date of Patent: July 18, 1978Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jan-Olof Wallin

Patent number: 4085552Abstract: A stand for selectively supporting a work tool, such as a belt sander or the like, in either a vertical or horizontal position. The sanding tool is mounted to a support plate which is pivotally disposed for movement from a first position wherein the tool is supported in a vertical position to a second position wherein the tool is supported in a horizontal position. The stand further comprises a work support platform detachably connected to the support plate. The platform includes a pivotally connected work table that is adjustably located in a selected position within a predetermined range of positions.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1977Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: James H. Patent number: 4052775Abstract: A self-sufficient three-piece structure constituting an open top metal housing within which there is mounted a pushbutton lever and a V-shaped leaf-type spring between lever and base of housing. A single plastic insert providing a crush resistent wall between base of housing and plastic cover also holds an electrical switching arrangement. The electrical switching arrangement includes a rotatable shaft and a radially outward extending finger which is actuated by insertion of the mating clip.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1975Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: James A. Patent number: 4041653Abstract: A stress relieved air supported structure having a wall portion including a plurality of relatively elongated panel members joined together by seam means and restrained by harness means; anchor means being provided along the base perimeter of the wall portion; each of the panel members including a membrane configuration, adjoining panel members being joined together by a seam means and having web means interconnected thereto along the seam thereof, and wherein the load of the harness means, seam means, anchor means, and the load and stress of the membrane configurations thereof are a function of the width and height of the air supported structure, the primary radius of curvature thereof, and the design wind speed and inflation pressure thereof.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1976Date of Patent: August 16, 1977Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: Lloyd H. Patent number: 4029117Abstract: A collapsible, readily erectable shelter structure in the form of a pyramid having a plurality of fabric panels draped over and connected to a plurality of rigid columns. Each column is hinged at its top to a top plate and extends downwardly and outwardly to form the frame of the pyramidical structure. Each column is attached to a foot plate which rests on the ground. A central cable hangs down from the top plate and is adapted to be cinched to an item, such as a vehicle, that is being protected by the shelter. The central member is thereby placed under tension and the side columns are placed under compression. A plurality of tapes or webs or cables sewn to the panels are connected between adjacent side columns. When the structure is loaded, as by wind or snow, the foot plates tend to move outward and the tapes are placed under tension. The tapes resist the outward movement of the columns.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1976Date of Patent: June 14, 1977Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: Lloyd Howard Rain

Patent number: 4022522Abstract: A tailored membrane supported solely by a peripheral frame forms the front panel of a chamber. A source of vacuum or an air blower maintains a pressure in the chamber which differs from that of the ambient atmosphere. As a result, the tailored membrane is either drawn forward or pushed taut to provide a concave or convex viewing surface having a configuration determined solely by its tailoring.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1975Date of Patent: May 10, 1977Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: Lloyd Howard Rain

Patent number: 3990651Abstract: A vehicle acceleration sensitive locking device is disclosed for use with a conventional safety belt retractor having a shaft mounted ratchet. The locking device includes a pivotally mounted pawl normally spaced from the ratchet by a preselected distance and an inertial mass pivotally mounted to sense change in vehicle velocity above a level predetermined to be dangerous. Movement of the inertial mass displaces the pawl to its operate position to block rotation of the ratchet and the safety belt retractor shaft and, thereby, prevent protraction of the safety belt when the change in vehicle velocity exceeds the predetermined level. The device further includes adjustment means operative to limit movement of the pawl away from the ratchet when the pawl is in its inoperative position to determine the normal spacing between said pawl and ratchet.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1974Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventors: Louis Romanzi, David S. Patent number: 3961585Abstract: A net of the type having a plurality of intersecting straps forming a lattice structure which is adapted to encompass a load to maintain the load on a support or a pallet. The net comprises a top section having diagonally extending interconnecting straps and integral front, rear, and side sections. The sections are adapted to be connected to the support to maintain a load within the net in place. The front and rear sections are connected to the side sections through the diagonally extending straps of the top section so that a portion of the forces applied to the front or rear section due to acceleration or deceleration of the load are transmitted to the side sections thereby to distribute the forces generated by the load.Other features include means for encircling the load at an intermediate point independently of the sections thereby maintaining smaller loads centrally positioned on the support. Additionally, bracing straps are provided to eliminate undesirable movement of the side sections.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 1974Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: Irvin Industries, Inc.Inventor: Harold Brewer
