  • Patent number: 6315332
Abstract: The invention is a flexible line element, particularly for exhaust pipes of internal combustion engines of motor vehicles. At least two interconnected, metal bellows are provided with cylindrical joining ends and at least one of the bellows may be helically corrugated. The bellows may be telescoped. The two bellows, whether in line or telescoped, are connected at only one of their joining ends. A line element of the invention is on the one hand torsion-soft to not transfer any torsional stresses to adjacent components, and on the other is also stable in the case of high torsional stresses.

  • Patent number: 6220023
Abstract: A flexible line element, particularly for exhaust pipes of internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, is disclosed having a screw thread-like or annularly corrugated bellows provided with cylindrical connection ends and a metal netting directly surrounding the bellows. The metal netting is inherently stable and has at least one plastic deformation for acoustic or mechanical damping of the bellows. Consequently, the metal netting has both a protective and a damping function.

  • Patent number: 5506376
Abstract: The invention proposes an apparatus for damping or absorbing vibrations in an exhaust system of a vehicle, having two connection ends, at least one bellows and absorbing cushions, in which bellows are arranged on either side of said cushions. This leads to a better standardization, adaptability and design of such an apparatus and in particular in the case of the same angular movement the two bellows are less stressed or greater angular movements are possible.

  • Patent number: 5482330
Abstract: An apparatus for an elastic connection of pipe, particularly in exhaust lines of motor vehicles. A first pipe end and a second pipe end are connected by a flexible line elements such as a metal bellows. A casing accommodates at least one damping cushion and first and second abutment are respectively connected with the first and second pipe ends. The casing includes circumferentially juxtaposed wall portions forming the first and second abutment with the wall portions being movable relative to one another so as to be brought into abutment with the at least one damping cushion.

  • Patent number: 5456291
Abstract: In order to obtain optimum absorption and compensation of relative movements in an exhaust gas system while at the same time avoiding a transmission of movement and the occurrence of a resonance phenomena, a conduit element is proposed having a bellows and a metallic braided or knit jacket. The bellows is fashioned as a highly flexible bellows with an all around absorption of movement. The jacket is applied to the bellows so that the jacket solely follows substantially the wave crests of the bellows.

  • Patent number: 5403044
Abstract: The invention proposes a simple and inexpensive apparatus for the articulated connection of pipes of an exhaust system, such as of a motor vehicle, which has pipe sections connected by a flexible line part, such as a bellows, in which resilient elements engaging round the line part are provided having casing parts axially interengaging with projections and in each case connected to a pipe section and with at least one ring part, coaxial to the bellows, connecting both casing parts over their circumference in the vicinity of their projections.

  • Patent number: 5090746
Abstract: A hinged joint for pipes having a sealing element such as, for example, a pipe with corrugated walls and reinforcing flanges at each end. At a certain distance from its end, each pipe carries a flange, which has two diametrically arranged, outwardly directed fastening attachments, each serving to be directly or indirectly connected to the corresponding attachment of the other flange, so as to permit a rotary movement about an axis orthogonal to the axis of the pipes thereby resulting in a hinged joint, which is particularly suitable for joining motor vehicle exhaust pipes.

  • Patent number: 5083817
Abstract: For the vibration-based decoupling of two pipe parts, such as the exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine and the exhaust system, at least two compressed absorber cushions of braided, knitted, tangled or similar wire are arranged so as to absorb or damp movements of substantially the same order of magnitude in all degrees of freedom, that is, with respect to all possible movements. For this purpose, the at least two absorber cushions each have a polygonal configuration.

  • Patent number: 4997272
Abstract: Laser Doppler anemometer with a wavelength-stabilized laser diode (1) whose beam after splitting (7) is so concentrated in a definite area (9) of a particle-containing flow of a fluid with the velocity (17) that in this area (9) an interference fringe pattern is produced, and with at least one semiconductor photodiode (13) on which the laser beams (10, 11) progressing from the area (9) are refocussed after elimination of scattered light fractions by a scattered light trap (diaphragm stop) (14), for the detection of the difference signal I between incident light intensity I.sub.o and scattered light intensity I.sub.scatter which the particles contained in the fluid emit into the whole solid angle 4.pi., where I=I.sub.o -I.sub.scatter. By detection of the laser beam of the intensity I which is modulated with the Doppler frequency after having passed through the point of measurement (9), the whole light intensity I.sub.scatter emitted by the particle into the solid angle 4.pi.

  • Patent number: 4659117
Abstract: For decoupling an exhaust system while suppressing or damping motion and cutting down noise as far as possible, a flexible joint or articulation for the exhaust system of a motor vehicle has a flexible duct part with support parts joined with its ends for outer damping members. The flexible duct part is so designed that the support parts are overlapped on the outer side of the duct part forming pockets acting as housings for compacts of compressed metal wire for damping motion of the support parts in relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4340089
Abstract: A tubular bellows element for fluids is provided which has concentric corrugations. The corrugations include flanks separated by spaces which narrow towards inner ends of the corrugations. The inner corrugation ends have a conical shape, and act as scales to increase the degree to which the ends of the bellows element can be moved with respect to each other. The inner ends also serve to provide an essentially smooth inner surface for the bellows element, minimizing both flow disturbance and the creation of turbulence.
