  • Patent number: 7610807
Abstract: A wave guide probe for use with direct-read tank level gages to provide electric signal output is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a translucent tube, a wave guide probe, and an electronics assembly. The translucent tube is for containing a fluid interface. The wave guide probe is positioned in the translucent tube. The electronics assembly is operably associated with the wave guide probe for actuating the wave guide probe and producing an electrical output signal representative of a location of the fluid interface in the translucent tube. The apparatus provides both electronic and optical level indications and is well suited for tank applications.

  • Patent number: 7610806
Abstract: A thermowell extends downwardly into tank liquids from the roof of the tank. A magnetostrictive wave guide probe is positioned on the inside of the thermowell and a magnetic float is slidably positioned on the outside of the thermowell. The probe is connected to a head unit containing the necessary electronics for operability which is positioned outside of the tank. The position of the float, and thus the liquid level, is remotely sensed by the probe, and the probe can be removed from the thermowell if necessary without breaking the seal of the tank.

  • Patent number: 5020810
Abstract: A tubular connector, such as used with a liquid sight monitor, having a plurality of internal deformable ridges for bearing against the external surface of the tube of the monitor. Hence, it accommodates to a range of sizes and irregular tube shapes. The connector is made of a material that in a thick dimension is not deformable, but in a small dimension is deformable, such is Teflon FEP. The body is thick enough to be rigid, whereas the ridges are complaint, more so in a direction toward the mounting end of the connector or end of the tube. Pressure leakage form the liquid system to which the sight monitor is attached increases the pressure seal of the ridges with respect to the surface of the tube. Concentric tube sight monitors are connected to their systems using a connector having, in addition to the set of ridges for accommodating to the internal tube in the manner just described, a second set of ridges for conforming to an external tube.

  • Patent number: 4807473
Abstract: A liquid sight monitor includes a translucent thermoplastic viewing tubular element having ends that are flared, after the tube is inserted through the central holes of flanges located at either end, to secure the viewing element in place. A float may be included in the viewing element of the same material and cup shaped to entrap air so that the float rises to the level of the fluid surface, even though it is otherwise heavier than the fluid. A flow-through restrictor disk prevents the float from falling out the bottom of the viewing element when there is an absence of fluid therein. The monitor may have a protective see-through shield connected between its top and bottom flanges, if desired.

  • Patent number: 4690169
Abstract: A combination shut off and check valve is disclosed in which the shut off valve function is provided by a manipulable ball closure. A loose ball is contained in a chamber upstream of the ball closure. A seat for the loose ball is provided at the downstream end of this chamber and is located either on the ball closure or on the downstream opening of the chamber. The loose ball will not seat itself ordinarily because the chamber is sufficiently large so as to cause the center of the loose ball to be below the central axis of the ball closure flow hole. A pressure differential in the downstream direction causes the loose ball to roll up an inclined ramp leading to the seat, where it seats in check valve fashion.

  • Patent number: 4345468
Abstract: A liquid sight monitor including an internal sight tube surrounded by an external sight tube, the ends therebetween being spaced apart by inserts including "O" rings sealing against both tubes. The internal annulus between the tubes can be environmentally purged. A protective shield can be provided, which also provides mounting flanges for supporting the overall apparatus in position for metering the system.
