Abstract: The present invention provides improved acoustic flame detection apparatus and methods for detecting the presence or non-presence of a flame from a location remote from the flame. The flame detection apparatus is comprised of a conduit extending between the location of the flame to be detected and the remote location, a sound detector connected to the conduit for detecting sound conducted to it by the conduit and generating a signal representative thereof and means for receiving the signal and indicating the presence or non-presence of the flame in response thereto.
